We were two great boxing rivals who had a common ethnicity, and we both had tragic deaths years apart. Who were we ?

JW U are correct... Ketchel and his rival Billy Papke fought each other four times. Ketchel was shot and killed by Walter Dipley in 1910, and Billy Papke killed his estranged wife and committed suicide in 1916...the middleweight division has the most tragic events of all the weight classes...

Patterson and Quarry too. They had them two close fights that helped rejuvenate Patterson's career. Both suffered and died from forms of Alzheimer's (I think Patterson may of had cancer too).

And Les Darcy died at age 22, Dave Sands died in an auto accident, Marcel Cerdan who i saw fight Georgie Abrams, was killed in a plane crash over the Azores to fight a return match [1st match was posponed ,cause Jake LaMotta
claimed injury],Battling Siki was shot in the mean streets of Hell's kitchen, NY, Dick Tiger died from cancer at age 42. Yep Al, the middleweights had a tragic start when Jack Dempsey "The Nonpareil" died from consumption at the age of 33. Yep a tragic division....:good

Monzon too was killed in a car crash.

I would not want to be Hagler...;)

The only one who seems immune from this, is the Devil himself, LaMotta...

Yes Al Monzon too had a tragic end. Were I starting out to be a pro fighter today, I would go from welterweight to light heavyweight, thus avoiding the curse...Cheers AF...
