#2 Heavy right now?

The way Wlad so utterly dominated Pulev shocked people so they are over reacting and denigrating Pulev. Fact is Pulev is still a top 5 heavyweight he just has a style that matches up horribly with Wlad.

:rofl At the people ranking Fury at number 2. He is a number 2 as in the number 2 being synonymous with being ****.

He's just a big oaf with an even bigger mouth, other than a massively overweight Chisora who has he beat? He is so uncoordinated, way too easy to hit and after being flattened by a cruiser clearly doesn't have a good chin, he's a KO waiting to happen.

Haye vs Povetkin has perhaps been one of, if not the most intriguing fight in the past few years. Hopefully it gets made within the next 18 months.

 

The h2h top five are Klitschko, Povetkin, Jennings, Pulev and Takam.

In roughly that exact order.

Stiverne and Wilder may be competing for the WBC belt and because of that mere technicality whoever comes out ahead might warrant higher ranking than a Jennings or Takam (or even a Povetkin or Pulev, since neither currently does hold a world title belt) - yet in terms of h2h ability they are both well behind those guys and would be found out if they fought them.

Unless it gets unified with Klitschko's, the WBC HW belt is currently, in spite of its tradition, a paper belt.

Don't even bring up Fury. He is all sound and his surname, totally irrelevant, signifying nothing.

Yes, and also we had a situation where Pulev and Povetkin were clearly #2 and #3. Povetkin had a strong claim to be above Pulev due to his victories after losing to Klitschko, but either way, there was a fair gap between those 2 guys and the rest of contenders.
If Pulev got knocked out by another contender, then I agree that his rating would fall down to the bottom half of the top 10, but Pulev was defeated by the champion, and for that fact he can't be relegated lower than the guys who were on the bottom side of the mentioned gap by default. If they get a couple of victories, maybe, but not by default.
As for Stiverne, he's a special case like I said, due to the possession of a belt. I'd give maybe him a #3 rating because of that belt, but if he defeats Wilder, he'll definitely cement his place at #3 behind Wlad and Povetkin (maybe even challenge Povetkin's spot, but he'd probably have to fight Povetkin soon enough anyway). However, if Wilder wins, then everything will probably be up for a debate.

 

Is anyone now opposed to a Povetkin rematch?

He is clearly #2, since we now have such a stark contrast between his performance (and how much he clearly intimidated Klitschko) and Pulev's (and the lack of respect he in turn instilled after minimal 'feeling out').

Nothing that happens anytime soon - not the Stiverne vs. Wilder result, nor any single victory that could be conceivably notched by Jennings, Glazkov, Chisora, Fury, Ruiz, Szpilka, Browne, Arreola, Solis or Takam - is putting anybody up on the level of Povetkin. There's as much distance between #2 and the rest from three on down as there is between #1 and #2.

The way I see it, Povetkin offers the most chance of a competitive match for Klitschko before he retires, and besting him 2-0 offers more prestige than would any other challenger (or even a handful of top challengers all combined)

 

Well, I was always hoping that Klitschko's last match would be a rematch against Povetkin.

Sasha is planning to capture the WBC belt and try to get the rematch. He's perhaps 2 fights away from taking the belt.

 

If Povetkin beats some of the contenders like Fury and Chisora I'd have no problem with him going in with Wlad again.

Heck, if Haye made a return and knocked out Fury and Pulev he'd earn the right for a rematch.

I just want to see top ten contenders in the ring together.
Not Wilder facing top 30 guys, or Arreola and Stiverne being gifted a title shot when there's much more better options out there.

Like Povetkins last fights, beating Charr(Top 20?) And Takam(Top 5, how?) does nothing to signify he's ready for another shot.

How does that make him more worthy then Tyson fury?

 

Povetkin should get a shot at Chisora/Fury WINNER IMO! This would be good for both sides monetarily and clear up a couple questions, including good practice facing larger men , meaning it would set up a meeting with Wilder to clear up more information about the division and possibly a rematch with WK, to finish Wlad's career on top and ready for some new endeavors. By then, Povetkin can start building his own legacy and Gerald Washington or Anthony Joshua could push for a chance to take a beating or start a new generation.
