This is how crowds can influence decisions, and why fighting on home turf can matter.

I could not hear the crowd (sound down), but I could see them rise up. And I'm like "nothing happened. lol"

In essence, the crowd "willed" Ward to a win via their high volume and the judges' hearing it. I think something like that took place, and that's what Kathy Duva basically said after the bout.

It's not for nothing that Ward always fights in Oakland or the USA. He knows he's only going to get decision wins, and he needs that crowd edge.

Watch it without the sound off. I think you might see things differently. But maybe not. You'll definitely get a different experience, though.

As I said on another thread, this shows why open scoring is a good idea. No good reason why fighters and fans shouldn't know the scores as the fight is happening.

I watched the fight again just now...

I had it 115-114 to Ward...however...I had three close rounds where it was hard to score where 2 rounds were even and one round was close in the first half but I gave it to Kovalev...

You could definitely argue Kovalev won the fight with those close rounds considering how Ward was fighting him slightly dirty and Kovalev being the aggressor. Definitely needs a rematch. I don't think Ward would be stupid to get knocked down again in the second fight and I think Ward wins it by a few rounds in the next.

Was it a robbery - I don't know, I think it was difficult to score. But Harold was far wider - Where I struggled to find the clear winner of a round Harold gave it to Kovalev.

    My card:

    Round 1: 10 9 - Kovalev
    Round 2: 10 8 - Kovalev
    Round 3: 10 9 - Kovalev
    Round 4: 10 9 - Kovalev - Hard round to score
    Round 5: 9 10 - Ward
    Round 6: 10 10 - Even - Hard round to score
    Round 7: 10 9 - Ward
    Round 8: 10 9 - Ward
    Round 9: 10 9 - Ward
    Round 10: 10 10 - Even
    Round 11: 10 9 - Ward
    Round 12: 10 9 - Ward

    Total = 115-114 to Ward

Quality punches round after round + Krusher sloppyness and his body language being inferior to that of Ward’s round after round.

After the early rounds, Kovalev had difficulty finding Ward. Ward’s movement made it difficult for Krusher to pump the jab. Ward was blocking effectively upstairs, and when Krusher tried to jab, he often would miss and Ward was finding ways inside and countering those jabs with body punches right to the stomach.

In fact, a key to this fight was the body work that Ward was doing, even early on when Ward was losing rounds, and it played huge dividends. Ward’s consistent body work throughout the fight caused Krusher major stamina issues and affected his concentration. Ward had a much more varied attack, Ward proved himself to be a far superior inside fighter than Krusher, all Krusher could do was fight from the outside and try to time Ward with straight right hands. The jabs that Ward started landing in the middle rounds really surprised Krusher and it changed the fight. Ward’s boxing skill and movement were far more sophisticated than Kovalev. Kovalev was implying plodding forward, trying to find Ward where Ward was employing unpredictable behavior, Ward was using blocking and movement to negate the effectiveness of Kovalev’s jab. It took a few rounds but Ward figured out Kovalev’s timing and started to find creative ways to get inside and/or surprise him with punches at angles that Kovalev’s never seen before.

It's actually quite worrying that you can't identify the racism that is pushed through peoples agendas on this site day in and day out.

From a poster that lives in a country where little racism exists, it is very easy to identify.

Why do many of the Ward fans dislike Kovalev? Skin colour and the origin of his home country.

Why do many of the Mayweather fans dislike Pacquiao?

It's all the same. People are ****. If they actually appreciated the sport for what it is (talent and entertainment), then judges wouldn't get away with robberies like that on the undercard. As the scorers would feel ashamed and understand they would be outed (like other sports & like sports used to in older times).

My father was a boxer for a number of years. He cannot stand watching the results with modern day boxing. He literally leaves before the scores are read. He writes the scores down as he watches and has his own result from his viewing.

Inside of boxing, corruption runs thick and is seen day in and day out. Much of the time it happens on American fight cards (in Vegas especially) because that is where the money is...

That is not to say that Russia, Europe in general & Asia don't have large scale corruption in boxing...however, the main events that have great effect on the sport, are hosted in the entertainment capital - Vegas.

I'm going to sleep well too, knowing that I got to watch a great fight between 2 great fighters. They proved they are the best at what they do. No one can take that away from them. However, those scores were bs and its a shame it has to overshadow 2 prime fighters stepping up to the challenge!

Exactly. I felt Kovalev potentially gave away the fight by not winning one of the later rounds very decisively. As sad as it might sound, but he gave the US judges an excuse to score them for Ward.

This is what boxing is, love it or hate it. This is why fighters in Germany and the UK love to box in front of their home crowds too.

No wonder boxing is a dieing sport, the judges can go **** themselves. I seriously wish we could go back to times where a fight is only decided when a fighter is knocked out, stopped or quits.....

Watch Ward run from a rematch, Kovalev clearly won the fight but he fought the wrong fight for the most part. He got caught up in the wrestling game instead of what he was doing for the first few rounds. He staggered Ward with a ****ing jab!! He could have picked Ward apart but got into the macho wrestling ****, next time just take the overrated fighters head off!!!

that's like going robbing the local charity shop instead of the hatton gardens lofl

at least try to make the robbery convincing and well wroth it

I had Kovalev winning like 3 of the last 4 rounds. He at least won two of them. That is just corruption
