I'm not a judge and I'm just going off of my understanding from watching/reading, but kd's count heavily. It's considered "the name of the game". The round you describe would likely be scored 10-9 for the guy with 2 kd's even though the rest of the round was dominated. Some would argue it should be 10-8 (win the round based on more kd's, and extra point for the extra kd). As I said above, 10-10 is possible, too, but would be rare - 10-9 for the guy with less kd's I don't think would happen.

I've seen plenty of dominated rounds scored 10-8 when the dominated fighter gets a kd.

It's surprising how little documentation there is on this. You can google to your heart's content, but I never find judging rules that address cases like this. It's frustrating.

Who's a judge (or will claim to be one) out there to clear this up?

They usually give a 10-8 to the guy who scored the flash KD. Even if he was dominated.

As I said above, I'm not sure on these things, but I am sure that it would never be 9-9. That only happens with a deduction. The name "10-Point Must System" is given because the winner of the round must receive 10 points. If there is no winner, it's scored 10-10 (e.g. 2 kd's each in a round considered even would be scored 10-10, not 7-7).

I've seen dominated rounds scored 10-8 for the dominated fighter. Kd's carry a lot of weight. If anyone has an example of a round scored for a kd'd fighter, I'd be curious to hear it - I don't think I've ever seen it. I think a case can be made for 10-10, though, and that's within a judge's discresion.

I think if a guy wins a round, he should score 10, -1 for the KD..... which would be 9-9.

If you are getting beaten up and find a left hook from nowhere to deck the guy..... well done but you still lost the round!

I think there was a round in one of the Bowe-Holyfield fights where Holyfield was down and one of the judges gave it to him. I'm only going from memory though and it was years ago.

As far as I know the winner of a round must get 10 points (unless there's a deduction,) and after that it's at the discretion of the judge. The 'rule' that each knockdown automatically results in loosing a point is only a convention/guideline. In the JMM pac fight the judge said afterwards that he didn't know you could score rounds 10-6. If he had said 10-7 was how I saw it, that score would have stood.

actually i just found out that if each fighter scores a knockdown, they cancel each other out. So in your case if each fighter scores 2 knockdowns, then the score would likely be 10-9 to the winner or 10-10 in case of a draw.

However, if fighter A scores a knockdown, but fighter B wins the round, then the score can be 9-9 (10-9 for fighter B, but he loses 1 point for the KD)

Its not true that the winner of the round MUST get 10 points, even though its the 10 point must system. He usually gets 10 points, but not always

10 point must rule. so you decide on who has the better knockdown or better round.

personally i prefer to not go by the T.P.M. rule. because it doesnt give the scorer any dynamics and it also easy to tell who got KD how many times.
