I'd rather see a premature stoppage anytime than see another Prichard Colon or Magomed Abdusolamov anytime.
Lemieux was ready to go, he was hurt badly by a body punch, not to mention getting his head banged up, if the ref had not stopped the fight, then Lemieux would have been knocked out and hurt badly, the stoppage was at 132 of the 8th round...........................as far as the late punch, Lemieux went down on one knee after getting hurt to the body, Golovkin's punch was already in motion when he hit Lemieux. It was not intentional, but it's difficult to stop a punch after it was thrown, it was in motion..............................Golovkin is not a dirty fighter, never has been.......................
That was a horrible stoppage for GGG. What's funny about this is that Ward would get a TKO over GGG in the same manner, I'm am sure his fans would be mad af. I like how GGG fans claim to know what Lemieux was thinking when looking at the ref. Lemieux himself said he wanted to continue but nobody listens to that.
1) I think if you're taking between 8-13 punch combinations to the face regularly during a fight, the ref may have reason to stop it. 2) Fine, let Lemieux get more internal bleeding from a ruptured liver. He may have preferred that to getting jabbed in his busted nose for 3 more rounds until he finally quit, crying on his stool. 3) Refs did great jobs protecting the fighters on both accounts.
I am a big time GGG fan and argue with many of his illogical and unreasonable haters but on this I agree Bad stoppage, but in all honesty the fight had been one sided and lemiuex received a lot of punishment and never appeared in a position to win. It's bad but hardly controversial I do think it's pathetic the people saying he would have died if it continued. That didn't look likely at all.
This is what some of you jamokes want....a boxer getting knocked around like a toy while the ref looks like he's asleep. Go to 1:33 to see the beginning of the destruction of Eddie Machen by Ingemar Johansson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezLbrjlyTuQ
The stoppage would have been premature of limeux hadn't looked at the ref. This was unification fight and the champ needed to be given benefit of the doubt, but the fact is limeaux wanted out Viloria was getting a bad beating, no reason to prolong
I guess they should ban head punches right? Any time a guy is hurt at all by a punch it needs to be stopped right? It's boxing a sport where guys get hit in the head and the goal is to hurt the guy it's a mean sport tragedies happen. Should we change the sport completely and ruin it Some posts in this thread are pathetic
