First, I feel that I must preface this with a "**** Calzaghe!" Now on to those coupla things . . . 1) I keep hearing from either Roy fans or Calzaghe haters that Joe C is basically a douche for making/taking this fight which is absolutely absurd. Given the circumstances not only would Roy have done the same, so would any other fighter in the world. People are salty that Joe has added another lightly regarded win over a once highly regarded opponent. It's okay if you wanna feel that way but he ain't the first to do it so you need to start getting salty at all the others. Does DLH deserve/get a bunch of **** for massacring Chavez? Does Norris deserve/get a bunch of **** for dealin' it to Sugar Ray? And they were probably further from their prime than Roy was when Cal fought him, especially Sugar Ray. **** was all good when Mosley polished off Brokeback Vargas. ****, Roy took on and spanked a post broken neck Vinny Paz who was fighting 30 lbs. above the weight class he originally began prizefighting at. ****, he even took on a 3 years removed from the game Felix Trinidad who was fighting at 170 for the first time in his life. You wanna talk about meaninglessly padding a ****in' résumé??? C'mon, let's get serious. I understand this is tough. Roy lost this past Saturday but let's keep things in perspective. 2) The other thing that's getting my goat is that I see people boo-hooing about how Joe C showboated on the "great, legendary" Roy Jones and he shoulda showed some goddam respect. Personally, I'm not a fan of showboating in the ring cuz if you're showboating that means you're not getting **** done and in the ring I think one should be all business. Not to mention you look like a ****in' fool. But let's be serious. Roy is the Light Heavyweight King of showboating and when the going was good for him early on in the bout he did his fair share and had things continued to go well for him he indubitably would have done his fair share more. It just was not to be. Don't get me wrong. I was pissed that Joe was showboating, but I'm always pissed when Joe is showboating not pissed just because he was doing it on Roy Jones. If anything Roy is the only opponent whom I can see Joe C actually being kind of justified in showboating against as Roy has shown up many-a-opponent in his day. So, please, to the lot of you that are saying Joe C's a scumbag for either of the two aforementioned reasons w/o holding them against Jones, blow me. P.S. **** Joe C! He's a real douchebag.
Roy and Joe had total respect for each other. Roy was actually singing his rap song to JC in the 11th but changed the lyrics to "Joe you know you're 46 and 0" in recognition that Calzaghe had decided to halt the onslaught instead of trying to cause more damage and trying to finish it. When Calzaghe was showboating early on he was doing it to try and demoralize Roy wich is what boxing is all about - sapping the confidence from your opponent which it's fair to say Roy has indulged in plenty!! In the final 2-3 rounds Calzaghe was doing it slow the pace for the aforementioned reason that enough damage had been done but he couldn't very well stand there and do nothing
