In an ideal world, yes, Biev is a literal movie villain and should be easy to market. The difference between him and Ryan though is that Ryan steps in and does the work that these lazy promoters won’t. If he brings in the money, he deserves every penny.

 

To be honest, that is Bob Arun being a tight fist. Even in the Bivol fights, Top Rank barely put any effort into the promotion. It was all DAZN, Matchroom, TNT and Turki.

Top Rank are good for giving emerging talent a platform on ESPN and nothing else. Their days as a leading promoter with global reach are numbered to be honest.

Thankfully Beterbiev made $10m+ for both fights each side it helps balance things out

as a promoter though you have to know who you have. You have a Ryan Garcia or a Tyson Fury, it’s easy street, they’ll do all the work (side note: why do guys like them even have promoters? Not like they need them). You have a Beterbiev? You’ve got to do all the work sure, but done right, he’s marketable as hell. Make him the commie villain. He looks it. He sounds it. He’s got the highlight reel. **** man.

 

Garcia has made a lot of money, he is one of the biggest hypejobs in modern boxing and he should retire...

 

In the post social media Instagram/Tik Tok/Only Fans reality, the popular and marketable get the money; it sucks, but Pandora's Box was opened and it ain't shutting - spilled milk.

That said, it probably was ever thus - Ali marketed himself like no other and made the biggest fights and the most moolah, even if the platforms were far different back then.

I remember a story that Dundee told in his book. For one of Ali’s fights when young, tickets weren’t selling for whatever reason. Dundee told Ali. Ali went and spent hours every day walking around in front of the arena, telling everyone to come watch him fight. He ended up selling out every seat.

I’m sorry, but that’s hilarious. Promoter wasn’t getting it done so Ali was like “fine I’ll do it myself”, then sold out the arena.
