Compare the segment McGrain identified to this:

There are similarities I hadn't picked out before. Keep in mind Dempsey is sparring Tate. Notice the bending at the waist, the galloping, the hellacious shots, the pressure, the distance negotiation. Comparisons were made all over the place with Armstrong. I see at least as much vintage Dempsey...

His left hand is just 1 of the most beautiful natural punches, no throws it the same way, its hard to believe hes not left handed. Then again my left hook pivots off the right foot

I think it's an excessive statement, but i'd like to quantify it.

I think Ali is a touch ahead of the other HW's in terms of how good, and how dangerous h2h. He has Louis for company. Then, there is a secondary clutch, guys who were pretty amazing but would all lose fights against the right oposition, Lewis, Liston, Frazier.

I think Frazier is the most interesting one to remark upon because he could never sustain that level of competition. All the other guys mentioned, could. Frazier would get busted up if he was seeing out a career at that type of level in a way Ali never would be. But that version of Frazier, the peak Foster, Ali version, he's dynamite, and he sometimes gets underestimated on account of what came after Ali I.

Frazier is one of only two men I pick over peak Ali. I don't think he loses to anyone he reaches the cards with (Holmes, Holyfield, and Lewis, perhaps) and I think he could knock a lot of great fighters out. Sot it's only those weird, stylistic no-no's that see him off (Foreman and perhaps Tyson, Liston and Lewis).

So not untouchable, but a ****ing monster none-the less.

He had a "crook" in his left arm too, he couldn't extend it properly.

    Yeah, I like it.

I'm interested in the differences too though. Demspey likes to get set just out of range and then begin his "negotiatons" (nicely put), Frazier isn't interested in establishing something first, especially something that is sometimes further away (you see Dempsey do this v Willard, too). This is because Dempsey is rellying upon speed more than physical positioning.

I also think there is parity between these two as regards their brilliant timing for an all out assault, something that is only demonstrated in shadows in this video, because it is sparring.

thats quite odd because ricky hatton has that too and he has a brilliant left hook maybe it adds power

also frazier and dempsey are similar fighters who both had brilliant offenses

To your remark on Quarry, Jerry looked terrible in the 2nd fight with Ali. And I'm not even getting into the circumstances as to possibly why. Not so in the first fight, it was a very competitive fight till the cut.
