Janitor is convinced that the first time superhuman Dempsey hits Marciano in the face, marcianos jaw is going to be broken, and the 2nd punch Dempsey lands, is going to break marcianos nose and eye socket.
No, but if he is walking into Dempsey's punches for round after round, we are going to see this sort of damage eventually. He can't afford to just absorb Dempsey's combinations, while he is getting warmed up.
I agree Rocky was a slow starter he bled so easy unlike Jack whose skin was like leather Rockys doesn't have the foot speed like Dempsey he's unable to back up or slip side to side like Jack.. Look at how prime Dempsey bounces on his toes always ready to launch his bodyweight ,a prime Dempsey moves his bodyweight like lightning Rocky He can only crouch to make himself a small target i don't think Rocky would get slaughtered as easy as a 250 lb guy who has nothing to offer but a slow stationary target for Dempsey to tee off on .Dempsey's skill level is to much for even game fighter like Rocky,,Rocky was game as they come
That fat amateur was the reigning worlds champion. Miske had a further 23 fights over the next 3 years and lost only one beating several contenders along the way including. Renault Roper Weinert Gibbons Brennan Smith In 103 fights he was only stopped that one time, by Dempsey. You want to talk about low blows ? Watch some Marciano fights and read the reports of them. Tunney was never stopped Dempsey was the only guy to floor him I believe . Gibbons was only stopped in his last fight. Langford couldn't floor or stop Meehan who was stopped 6 times in 174 fights 3 at the tail end of his career , one when he was 17 ,one a corner retirement. The only man to ko him was a prime Billy Miske. I'm beginning to think Mendoza has some relatives on this Forum! The bias is so palpable.
And you're convinced Marciano has better defence, and out games Dempsey ? Marciano was badly cut in several fights , fights that would be stopped today, and he wasn't being hit by Jack Dempsey.
If you exclude heavyweights who just briefly dipped below 200 I'm not really that comfortable taking anyone against Rock. Dempsey-Marciano is a crazy matchup that is way more unpredictable than both sides are arguing here. They never fought anyone remotely like each other. I would agree that Dempsey's level of competition is more questionable, especially Willard-- who was basically a punching bag at that point.
"That fat amateur was the reigning worlds champion." Aren't you the guy who constantly critisizes Walcott for being 38 when he fought Marciano? Let's take Willard here. Willard was 37 years old when he fought Dempsey, and had not fought in 3 years.
I don't criticize Walcott, I just say he wasn't in his prime. I've never pretended Willard was prime when he faced Dempsey.Difference being Dempsey annihilated Willard in 3 rounds. Walcott was ahead after 12 rds with Marciano .
Willard-- who was basically a punching bag at that point.[/quote] Willard wasnt knocked down in rounds 2-3 and fought back surprisingly well managed to hit Jack with an uppercut that made his corner nervous but sustained to much punishment to capitalize on it he never came out for the fourth round
We've been over this before. If you think you are more of an authority on Miske than Clay Moyle, I would like to read your book. Such is the nature of what was called Bright's Disease that it was a series of progressive bouts with recoveries between episodes. Miske could barely train for the Dempsey bout and was known as a dead man walking even by Dempsey's camp. Again, read Moyle's book and refute what he says. Gibbons showed writers the extensive bruises on his thighs and hips the day after their bout. Homeboy Jimmy Daugherty wasn't about handcuff his roommate, Jack, and any of Jack's special blows. By the way, Tommy said Miske hit harder than Jack. I will certainly give you Marciano, especially in the C ockell bout.
