This decade provided the first unification since Holyfield and a unified champ. For years the division was just a stopping place for guys who were on their way up to heavyweight. Most guys who got a belt there moved up and many found no success. Examples; Norris, Jirov, Gomez. Mormeck and Braithwait Uinified and had a unified holder. And Mormeck rather than going up in weight stuck around and promoted the division further by having a 2 fight series with Bell unifying the WBC, WBA, and IBF. This brought a real buzz to the division and I considered it one of the best available.

Haye then unified after beating Mormeck. But he soon moved up but Adamek and Cunningham fought for the vacant Ring in 2008 and had a candidate for fight of the year.

The division has since lost its steam with Haye and Adamek gone and Cunningham the clear best guy is without a belt. Also the other well know champion Huck is fighting obscurity right now.

Will cruiserweight remain a serious weight class

It's got better than it was in the 90's. Right now it is in a bit of a slump as you say. Haye and Adamek moved up and Huck aside, nearly all of the top cruisers only fight once a year or even less.

The biggest problem of cruiser division is lack of top fights. Huck doesn't want a piece of Cunningham again, he thinks of Haye and Klits tho :D

USS will get his another IBF shot and face Troy Ross - very good match-up, probably the best Nothern American cruisers. Wlodarczyk will fight Fragomeni for WBC in May. WBA ... no comment, Jones is a disgrace. This division needs unifications, also new active WBA champion. Hopefully Lebedev will get his Huck title fight and KTFO him and take away a belt that Huck got as a gift from uncle Wilfried. In my opinion it's getting better.

If that scenario got real, then a new soul would come into this division and best guys would have belts. Some unification would let to find out a dominance in CW, cuz now it's boring and predictible. There's potential around, but must be used well.
