I can't say because bernard beat absolutely nobody at middleweight. Jake has wins over all time greats. Jake is on a different level than the Robert Allens, Willam joppys an Howard eastmans. Oh lets not forget the great antuan echols lol. Bernard did a whole lot of nothing at middleweight. His best win is Glen Johnson.

That's what I mean. I can understand thinking Hopkins would win (I tend to lean that way myself), but to talk like it's going to be some easy walkover for Hopkins is silly.

LaMotta in his prime would swarm Bernard for 3 minutes a round, 15 rounds. Hopkins would not be dictating the casual pace that he likes to fight at. Jake would be taking him out of his comfort zone. Hopkins wasn't some defensive wizard at 160. I saw plenty of guys hit him clean, solid and often. Jake would, too. BHop would take it, but he'd have to work hard for this victory.

A lot of people here are selling LaMotta short based, I believe, on the available footage of him. We have maybe one or two films of him anywhere near his prime. Tommy Bell (which is a very short, frenetically edited film), and Joey DeJohn (which most people haven't seen, or haven't seen in its complete form). Beyond that everything we have of LaMotta, including his win over Cerdan, is when he was past his best. Some here have said he wouldn't be able to surprise Hopkins with anything. Not sure I agree but fair enough, but seriously, after five fights with a prime SRR (and yes heavy he was a prime when LaMotta fought him, all six times, moronic to state otherwise) what exactly is Hopkins going to show him that he hasn't dealt with before?

Tough fight for both men but one thing is certain. Hopkins is not winning easily. Could he win? Yes i think he could...but LaMotta could pull it off as well. Jakes resume at MW is a notch or two above Hopkins' and LaMotta was more than a crude brawler. He was the goods plain and simple. Like I said, a tough night for both.

When exactly was LaMotta's prime, so that we limit the list of fights where we are going to search for LaMotta swarming an opponent non-stop the whole fight?

Yeah i really don't get why people are saying this is a bad match up for Jake. it's the other way around. Bernard would never hurt jake an he had better step his volume up, his one two clinch would not cut it when he realizes how strong jake was, in the tie up jake would man handle bernard he would be the strongest fighter bernard fought. Jake rolled with the punches brilliantly an srr himself said lamottas jab was a nightmare. I think Bhop would be thrown off his game and confused.

No knockout either way here. No chance.

    A distance fight everytime.

Hopkins has that great defense, ring IQ and solid power. A good counterpuncher who was always in great condition.

Jake LaMotta had a a iron chin, vicious body assault and the ability to force the fight and create openings with relentless pressure. Jake`s ring IQ is criminally underated. He knew all the tricks and Hopkins would learn some from him.

Over the 15 rounds distance I think Jake can outwork Hopkins enough to the time to make it a very close decision either way.

    Tough Call.

    LaMotta win 15.
