While I was in disbelieve watching Peter take the beating he did against Vitali earlier this month, I still feel he can be champ again, and give most, if not all of the division a tough fight. Tyson was well past his best in 02, and seemed to be in the game just for the paycheck, though was always dangerous and still was a force to be reckon with. So who takes it, the Peter that lost to Vitali or the Tyson that lost to Lewis? I would love know what would of happend.
Interesting fight. I tend to lean towards Peter, especially after he was pounded time and time again by Klitschko but never went down. If he can last 2-3 rounds with this version of Tyson he would have a very good chance to beat him, in my opinion.
I think if Peter could get past the 1st 2 or 3 rounds then yes he wins...but that opening 2 rounds is the big question mark...after that Tyson is done...he plods from then on. Still, hmmm thinkin about it this is Tyson going forward and Peter going forward - so a war. Maybe Tyson still wins this on his speed. Looking at it that way its never gonna last a fight like this. Therefore I dont think Tysons lack of stamina may be an issue in this fight. Its not like against LL were he was taken into deep waters and drowned after being outboxed for 7 rounds. This fight I think at any point dont go past 3 rounds. So I changed my mind - Tyson KO.
Thats kinda how I see it playing out, though Tyson was pretty good against fighters built like Peter, especially ones that tried to trade with him on the inside, something I see Peter trying to do. As long as Peter can stand upright for 3 or 4 rounds, he would probably find a way to make Tyson quit or get TKO'd. I do believe if Tyson can hurt Peter like McCline did, Tyson's killer instinct would be enough to put him away IMO.
Fact is Peter NEVER faced anyone who both punches as hard as Tyson and who starts as fast as Tyson. Even the PAST PAST PAST version of Tyson was game for 3 rounds before he was a walking slugger. Tyson would push the pace early and have Pete reeling before the first round was over. He does it again in the second and finishes him off. Tyson TKO 2.
I agree, but Tyson ha a habit to give up when he was being rocked, so tough to say. Peter still has heavy hands.
While that may be true after the Lewis battle, but during the fight itself, he proved he was a warrior every way. It took 8 rounds of heavy straight right hand, the same ones that laid guys like Golota, Ruddick, Briggs, and Rahman out in just a few rounds. Tyson fought tough, and was hit with extremely hard straight right hand, and was pushed down by Lewis in the 8th round knockout. While I would favor Peter slightly, I would not be surprised at all to see Tyson knockout Peter in dramatic fashion.
The Tyson that lost to Lewis managed to fight back for at least one round. That's one more round than Peter was able to do. Tyson also had skills. Peter has none. Tyson has hand speed (even old mike had decently quick hands) Peter is the slowest belt holder I have ever seen. I'm fairly certain that any version of Tyson would make short work of Peter.
Tyson in 02 wasn't shot. He was very, very faded but still could fight at an elite level for spurts. Peter takes too many shots and gets blasted out by Iron Mike. Tyson didn't have anywhere near his former skill, but he was probably stronger and hit harder in 02 than ever previously and still had fast hands.
