If Joe Calzaghe fought the John Ruiz who lost against RJJ, how do you see this fight?

Technical Draw. The judges and fans would kill themselves out of sheer boredom. Slappy arm punch flurry, clinch, slappy arm punch flurry, clinch, slappy arm punch flurry, clinch.

If RJJ's chin could survive Ruiz's punches there's no doubt that Cal's would have! No way that Calzaghe would lose on points to Ruiz. He'd have won every round except perhaps the first one or two.

Ruiz was the perfect HW 'champ' for speedsters from the lower divisions. Slow, not much power, and not very big either. Having said that Ruiz if he had adopted his usual grappling style against Jones would have won. I suspect he thought that given Jones influence/fame he'd get disqualified very quickly if he had started to hold.

Could Calzaghe hit hard enough to get Ruiz respect? Jones and Toney did, but Calzaghe with his brittle hands may not be able to keep the bigger Ruiz off him. Ruiz as boring as he is can take him out with 1 right hand

Back in 2003 Calzaghe had tremendous punching power! His hands were still in reasonable condition at that time!
