reid was shot to **** in 2005

true he had never been down amater or pro or even been rocked in the ring up until this night, and as a former wbc champ, reid was supposed to be lacys toughest test so far. but lets not forget reid was a stand off boxer and a counter puncher. theres no way a prime reid would have stood flat footed and traded with someone like jeff lacy, he didnt have the speed anymore, his timing was off, and his reflexes diminished thus resulting in the hamering he took. all reid could do was bravely stand and trade in a shoot out. and like lacy said after the fight "i took robin reids best punches but he couldnt take mine" anybody with half a brain would not stand and trade with jeff lacy but thats all reid could do he was shot to pieces in 2005

Yeah. Had nothing to do with the gulf in experience, speed, stamina and skill did it?

I personally think Joe just ruined him mentally after that total ass whipping .....He never recovered...Plus he was brought along too fast and they all thought Joe was going to be a pushover and well we know how that turned out...

Calzaghe was close to pulling out of the Lacey fight as he had damaged his hand, his nutcase of a father motivated him to take the fight and after Lacey had continually called Joe a 'slapper' he decided to give Lacey a boxing lesson, he was in the zone that night.
Whether Lacey was overrated or not is hard to decipher, the only thing you can say is that he was well and truly schooled and has never been the same since.
For all the **** he gets on here I hope he comes back and shows how good he is because I don't believe for one second he was as bad as people make out.

not only did he lose his fans ..but some former fans are sooo agitated and worked up over their for sure "next tyson" prospect ..that they get angry and start swearing as soon as you bring his name up ... .

you guys can play howard cosell devils advicate all you want.. i was here prior to the cal fight ..i seen the numbers of fans that picked lacy to rip his head off ...it was either american bias ...or for sure fans who put there money behind a fighter they thought was the goods... you guys can hide it now and act like he was garbage all long but i know better ...

this man had some fans that now you couldn't find them under a rock in the middle of no where ...yall have vanished lmao just like mayweathers fans will vanish if he stays gone or comes back to lose ...
just like Roy jones jr's fans vanished for a while ...all the hype fans that just jump on board when they are for sure can't lose

    Have to disagree totally ..

After Lacy left Bloodworth, his style almost changed overnight , he went from boxer puncher to plodding puncher .
With bloodworth , lacy had a Jab , head movement hand and foot speed , No one notice this because he was knocking guys out , but his defense and boxing ability suffered greatly ..

Now that Lacy is back with bloodworth I would like to see if he gets back to the old Jeff Lacy

I thought Birmingham did a good job with Lacy ... I think you got it wrong ... Birmingham was Lacy's amateur trainer as well ... and he helped Lacy alot with his movements, jab, and defense ...

I think it was a matter of Lacy looking to knock Calzaghe out and not getting the job done first.

NO Birmingham ruined him IMO .. go back and look at Jeffs early fights where he was putting his punches together, he used faint and a good jab to set thing up , during his sting with Birminham he just started wading in taking shots to land shots.
here jeff fainting a Jab and then stepping to his left sinking in a crushing left hook to the body .. setup beautifully using his jab.

Going back to Birmingham he lost that and started using his strength and power to try , overwhelm, wear-down his opponents .
Strength and punching power can only go so far.

    As good as it gets?

If you mean he threw powerful WIDE looping shots...had terrible defense...sloppy footwork...and hadnt beaten a fighter you could even consider great...then ya I agree, he was as good as it gets!!!

(Tho I will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart for all the money I made off him vs Calzaghe....THANKS JEFF!!!! :thumbsup )

    He was never good.

    Got schooled by Joe C.

    He was overhyped.

    Stick a fork in him.

I've NEVER thought much of this overly musclebound dolt. I loved when Omar Sheika almost beat him and while I honestly didn't think Calazaghe would win, the way he obliterated him exposed him for exactly what he was.

What went wrong you ask?? Where do you want me to start?? Technically he's not a sound boxer as he doesn't have the most important arsenal in his tool-kit that being a JAB.

His defense is non existent and he tries to overpower you to compensate for that.

He was a 2000's super middleweight version of Earnie Shavers. Nice power but when up against ELITE competition, they take away what he likes to do and thats that.

I heard he's got a new trainer. He needs a shrink frnakly. He's looked clearly AWFUL since the Cal fight.
