Antonio Rogerio Nogueria, the Brazilian MMA fighter will be fighting for the SHW title, just thought I'd throw that out there, not trying to start any fights, just showing that the idea that MMA fighters can't box at least reasonably well is a bit dimwitted. Here is his fight in the quarter final fight. (curtesy of Iron Duke) [yt]X7dPp5IsuFw[/yt] Not bad for a guy who normally fights at 205 and got knocked out in his last MMA fight huh? Anybody else have anybody you are cheering for in the Games?
What weight is he fighting at, in this? Oh maybe now this'll prove that not all MMA fighters are 'bums' :nut atsch
He's going to get beat in the Semis versus the cuban Robert Alfonso. And he had 2 easy fights versus fighters from Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela. http://www.rio2007.org.br/data/pages/8CA3C78413B9BA990113BA53BF5C1C44.htm
Still, he qualified as the best from his country, already won the South American championship, and might just win the Pan Am games. Not bad for a guy who doesn't even focus the majority of his training on boxing and started relatively late in life. Some people might want to start rethinking the "bum" and "failed boxer" theory.
He also did not need to qualify like everybody and was just given his spot in the tournament. He'll be outclassed by Alphonso. Although I think Nogueria does have some potential in boxing. Hes got some quick hands, but is way to raw to compete against the best
he didnt have to go through one of the three qualifying tournaments like everybody else.. he got a free ride because his country is the host nation. And really... how competitive could the Brazilian National Tournament be at Super-Heavyweight
Nogueira's specialty is submission,he was never a big striker...brazil could have used Gonzaga or Pedro Rizzo, those are good strikers.
Nogueira couldn't score a single point and los versus Cuban Super Heavyweight Robert Alfonso: 5-0 This content is protected In this photo Roberto Alfonso in red beats Cristian Cabrera
Alfonso is an animal.. anybody know his height?? because he towered over his 2 opponents... And the score should have been a lot worse then 5-0.. the judges for some reason find it hard to award that many points against the Brazilians
