No I wasnt drinking and i didnt boxrec that **** either. I actually watch fights. Pavlik did come on late but i thought he lost the first 6 rounds and then lost one possibly two more late on. I had it 115 - 113 Taylor.
Yeah, but you can't counter what you can't reach...especially when we're talking about a long, active jab like Pavlik's. Taylor had some success countering Pavlik's jab, but he was longer and more athletic than GGG. I'll say it again, Pavlik by decision.
You don't need to reach anything when countering a jab. When one counters a jab, the other guy is stepping into the counter-puncher. The counter-puncher times, deflects, and steps in with their own jab or appropriate punch. Pavlik would be coming to GGG with the jab giving up reach. It would be countered all night long, until Pavlik stopped throwing it because he's being countered to death. I don't even think this would be a difficult fight for GGG. Styles like Ward's pose far more problems for GGG. Pavlik would almost be made for GGG, and I believe GGG would be the harder puncher in the fight, too. I don't see Pavlik getting out of round 6, honestly.

:huh You don't need to reach anything when countering a jab? Pavlik would be giving up reach? Are we talking about the same people here?
Would have been a long night for Golovkin judging by how easily Ouma found the target. Prime Pavlik was a monster at 160, solid boxing skills, concrete beard, heavy hands, and would have outweighed Golovkin massively by the first bell. Have to laugh at those who suggest he's chinny, the only reason Taylor dropped him was because he dropped his hands and started acting the fool after being tagged. Most at 160 wouldn't have got off the floor after some of the shots Taylor hit him with.
Wow, I thought the poll would be more even. Pavlik looked virtually unstoppable before Hopkins took him apart.
Tough call, because so many are basing GGG who (maybe not by his own fault), has not fought a big top MW like Pavlik, Taylor or Miranda. Pavlik had a great chin and I dont think would have just been blasted away. Its a tough one, but I think Golovkin may have won on better boxing, but at this time wouldnt bet on it and could change my mind the next time I look at this thread
Not really. Taylor didn't make him look good in their first fight (until the stoppage) and the second was fairly even despite Taylor clearly being wary of pulling the trigger. Also see the footage posted by Serge above. Pavlik was big and hard hitting and very competent but lacked Golovkins ring IQ and overall skillset. He'd be GGGs toughest opponent to date but I come down fairly clearly for GGG on this one.
Apparently not. Go do your homework and come back when you know the fighters you are discussing and exactly how GGG counters a jab. Then maybe you can discuss it with some knowledge.
This. GGG TKO9 Pavlik Pavlik was one of my favorites. I was at Pavlik - Taylor I in Atlantic City. What a great fight. It was a little scary on the boardwalk after the fight being that it was fighters from two different races and their fans supporting that way.
