Saying the fighters of now are the golden age of Heavyweights, is as dumb as saying Mr. Bush is the best president America has ever had.

The Heavyweights of now are terrible, limmited skills, over weight, injury prone, the majority of which are in there mid to late 30's. The division itself is a joke, one that even commentators like Merchant and Bernstein have already made fun of on air over the past couple years.

the 90s was better. more depth especially at the top....Wlad would be the only one who could compete and beat all the 90s top hws sans Lewis. Had current Wlad been in the 90's, he'd be top 5 for sure.

Lewis would be the only one who would have a clear adavantage. Wlad has a very favorable matchup against Holyfield (i.e. smaller counter-puncher) but you cannot underestimate his will. Bowe would be a very interesting matchup but i just feel his terrible conditioning and defense would give Wlad the slight edge. Tyson is the worst style matchup for Wlad but the 90s version was far less relentless. Tyson would be very dangerous for 3 rounds, then he begins to show signs of giving in. Old Foreman was way too slow and plodding for Wlad. He would shut him out on the scorecards. Young George is a nightmare for Wlad.

    1-Lewis
    2-Holyfield
    3-Bowe/Wlad
    4-Wlad/Bowe
    5-Tyson
    6-Foreman

Guys Like Peter, Sultan, Valuev could be in the lower top 10. Povetkin and Chagaev might be in the mix too. Haye would be top 50 for sure though :yep

Prime Vitali woud pound the **** out of 90s Tyson, easily outpoint Foreman and probably outpoint Bowe and Holyfield. Lewis has the slight edge

It doesn't stop you from posting about it does it? You keep reading the headlines, joing the HW thread conversations & watching the fights right?

There are some decent matchups being made that I, for one, can't wait to see. I'm sure you feel the same.

The 90's were pretty frickin' good too but nobody seemed to think so at that time........................remember that?

I do, the Heavyweight division is probably the division I watch the most and I cant help but complain about what I have been seeing lately. Wlad fighting lame ass competition like Thompson, Peter having to wait out another failed Vitali comeback attempt, Chagaev and his mysterious injuries, Valuev fighting boring ass Ruiz, and thats just the most recent news.

As far as people not looking at the 90's as great while it was going on, isnt that with anything RUSKULL? Wether it be a job or a new girlfriend, you dont realize what we truly had until it's gone, and replaced by something much worse. I look at the 90's Heavyweight picture like that, compared to now it was amazing, similar to the economy under Clinton, compared to now under Bush, it really makes you wish you would of appreciated things when times were good.

Good point. Although I think that the 90s were certainly a superior era to now, at the time, the HWs of that era received much criticism and were unfavorably compared with the 70s. The division was thought at the time to be not much better than its nadir in the 80s.

Thompson is not lame. He is #9 ranked by the ring. he's a legiyt hw. Wlad is just a nightmare sytlistically for him: a classic boxer without power is a sitting duck. He would give Chagaev/Valuev all they could handle. I think Peter would beat him but would have a lot of trouble with his size and inside workrate.

Who has Thompson beat to get the fight against Wlad, his resume is as loose as Jenna Jameson ***** after a 30 man royal rumble gangbang. Thompson is no better than Ray Austin, at least Austin had some power and a draw over a pretty decent fighter in Iggy, a fighter he rocked better than Wlad.

i agree. his resume is as thin as Nicole Richie after a daily coke binge but his style and size make him a tough matchup for most. His lack of quality opposition leave big questions especially about his chin. i dont put him on the level of a Peter, Valuev, Chagaev, Sultan, Povetkin. i group him with Virchis, Gomez and Chambers.

it's not a real good win but it's decent and his 6th top 10 ring ranked opponent in the last seven...

You'll appreciate Klitschko after he retires if you really love the HW's like I do.

He IS a special talent even though he has flaws. He's a great role model for the next generation of fighters & fans because he keeps at it & he shows up in shape. He doesn't talk **** & he delivers KO's (88% of the time or so) :yep

I'm expecting that percentage to go up this weekend :good

Fair enough Kobe Is God, there's a reason why he hasnt lost in nearly 8 years, it's called lack of competition. I could name 10 or so guys off the top of my head that deserve the chance to fight Wlad before Thompson, and 20 that I would rather see him fight, other than Thompson. I just cant seem to get excited for this one, even for the Austin fight I was a little pumped up.
