Anyone remember this? What a fight that was. i thought Cordoba was gonna annihilate Dunne and at times in the fight it looked like that. Dunne fought his heart out and did show some serious grit stopping more skilled Cordoba. Dunne really made Irish crowd proud that night, I bet it was great atmosphere in there at least it looked watching it behind the screen.
Great fight, its one of those cases of a man putting on the performances of his life and reaching a level he never reached before or would ever reach again. He showed immense heart toughness and desire and no little skill either to be fair. I thought Dunne was done after those two knockdowns in the 5th but he got up, dusted himself off and fought the fight of his life afterwards. I wasn't there in person but every Irish person who was there said it was an unbelievable atmosphere. The crowd got Dunne through that fight imo. It should have got FOTY, if not in skill level, it was at least better than Diaz-Marquez at least in terms of drama.
Yeah really fantastic, underrated fight. Bernard Dunne was a bit like Khan in that he had a heart that sadly his chin couldn't match.
Yeah I was at it myself. It was a tremendous fight and the atmosphere was just surreal. I still think Cordoba was just unlucky and should have won but Bernard's heart is as good as anyone's and he put him away when he got the chance. Irish boxing hasn't had a boxer like Dunne since he retired. Andy Lee might do something if he wins a title but legit very few if any know he's going for a world title whereas everyone knew about Dunne. I'd consider Frampton Irish but due to him being a northern lad it limits his appeal. There is decent buzz around Quigley though and I think he is the next big thing in Irish boxing
Hell yeah, freaking underrated and BRUTAL fight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-OhTa6IHXI At 2:44 of that Gorilla Productions video.
How did you come to that conclusion, Dunne grew into the fight as it went on and it was closer than the scorecards had it? Dunne's superior condition told and he wore the man down. He also put Cordoba down heavily in the 3rd round.
This was the first fight I ever watched. I had no interest in watching it but my da insisted i watch it sayin the whole country would be watching it. And I've been a boxing addict ever since.
Great fight,I remember watching it on RTE media player in my college library in New York, trying not to shout at the screen!
Fantastic fight, one of the best ever in my opinion. So much drama and passion ... The same year another underrated fight was Silence Mabuza vs Yohnny Perez. I had the honor to watch it recently and it was well worth a watch too. I highly recommand.
