This year in my opinion has been defined by 2 factors 1 the struggle of heavily favored fighters and tough prospects 2. the disappointing super fights 2008 was the year of the HBO undefeated fighters losing their 0's like Cotto Pavlik and Williams. 2010 has seen heavily fighters struggle in fights meant to make them look good against over matched no hope in hell fighters. Tua was supposed to steam roll Barret early Maidana was supposed to kill Corley Adamek struggled against an over matched Grant Olympian from Philly had an SD on FNF vs Theophane Segura KO'd Calderon Then the super fights have been disappointing Pac Clottey came nowhere near the drama explained in the road to dallas documentary Floyd Mosely was interesting for about 3 or 4 rounds Cotto Foreman had little drama and had a towel incident mixed with an inconclusive non dramatic ending when he hurt his knee where neither fighter looked spectacular. Dawson mailed in a dreadful fight and lost to a 4 to 1 underdog where he decided not to fight until the 11th when the fight was already over Cunnigham Ross started to heat up when a cut brought it to an abrupt end in addition to the disappointing super fights the cancellations have been terrible Manny vs floyd hasnt happened best fight p4p Finally we have a heavyweight rivalry to be excited about with two hungry angry fighters that can produce a fight forth watching at the weight and it hasnt materialized maybe the 2nd best fight in all a boxing Wlad vs Haye Super 6 has gotten messy with Kessler out and Dirrel Ward Drama Povetkin an undefeated gold medalist and solid contender withdraws from fight with Wlad he represents an interesting contender
very disappointing boxing scene at the moment. the big 2 fights in boxing aren't happening. mayweather vs pac - should have been the blockbuster to end the year on. instead of that the 2 camps can't pull it together. atsch mayweather has gone quiet again and doesn't look like he'll fight at all this year now. :hi: haye vs klitschko brother - negotiations go west again and we get 2 average as hell defences from the klitschko's. atsch and david haye has gone awol. always froch getting beat up by abraham to look forward to i suppose. :yep
Wow. ANOTHER ONE of these ****ing threads. Why do you guys always look at the negatives? We've got an excellent Q4. Why not ****ing talk about that?
What's the dirrell Ward drama?! Also for me Joan Guzman not making weight w/ funeka and the fight w/ cassamayor collapsed .. Devon Alexander lookin horrible against kotelnick ( which I think he actually lost ) James Stoney getting beat down by Couture and MMA fans saying Boxing is dead ..
Ok, let's start off with this quote: 2010 has seen heavily fighters struggle in fights meant to make them look good against over matched no hope in hell fighters. Tua was supposed to steam roll Barret early Maidana was supposed to kill Corley Adamek struggled against an over matched Grant Olympian from Philly had an SD on FNF vs Theophane Segura KO'd Calderon Ok, Tua should have destroyed Barrett, but he didn't, but really the only people that really thought Tua was an actual force in the HW scene are Tua nuthuggers, haters of the Klitschko's, or people just stuck in the past. (where Tua didn't accomplish much even when he was in his prime) Depending on what your expectations were for Maidana-Corley were, I guess Maidana did dissapoint, but I wasn't expecting Maidana to run over Corley. After breaking it down I wasn't all that surprised Corley went the distance. Not too mention it was a great fight. Adamek was may'be a bit of downer, and he showed that he does not have HW power, nor is he big enough to challenge the Klitschko's. Still, Adamek is a quality fighter and matches up well with anybody right now. (expect for the Klitschko's) Danny Garcia was for the first time in his career stepping up against a quality top 15 contender. So, it shouldn't be all that of a surprise that he struggled a bit, but he still won, and that is a growing experience for a prospect like him. He can learn from that, that is way there are step up fights in Boxing. This was his first real step up fight and he passed the test. May'be not with flying colors, but he still passed the test. If he fights yet another contender next time out, then we should expect a bit of a better performance from Danny Garcia. Segura is a great fighter matched up with another great fighter in Calderon. That was a great fight also. Ok, moving on: Pac Clottey came nowhere near the drama explained in the road to dallas documentary Floyd Mosely was interesting for about 3 or 4 rounds Cotto Foreman had little drama and had a towel incident mixed with an inconclusive non dramatic ending when he hurt his knee where neither fighter looked spectacular. Dawson mailed in a dreadful fight and lost to a 4 to 1 underdog where he decided not to fight until the 11th when the fight was already over Cunnigham Ross started to heat up when a cut brought it to an abrupt end in addition to the disappointing super fights the cancellations have been terrible Manny vs floyd hasnt happened best fight p4p Finally we have a heavyweight rivalry to be excited about with two hungry angry fighters that can produce a fight forth watching at the weight and it hasnt materialized maybe the 2nd best fight in all a boxing Wlad vs Haye Super 6 has gotten messy with Kessler out and Dirrel Ward Drama Povetkin an undefeated gold medalist and solid contender withdraws from fight with Wlad he represents an interesting contender Pac-Clottey was terrible. I agree. I thought Mayweather-Mosley was great and I was very impressed by Mayweather's adjustments, and which made Mosley look silly. I enjoyed that fight throughout. I thought Cotto-Foreman was solid as well. Crazy incident, the fight being in Yankee Stadium, and Cotto's first fight at 154. Lots of things to look forward to it, and I thought the fight was a nice solid fight. Dawson-Pascal I loved. It was high drama thoughout, and I thought that it would be a tough, close fight, and it was. Amazing crowd that was going crazy. I love crowds like that, and Pascal had a great gameplan, and that fight had it's great moments thoughout as well. Cunningham-Ross was really a bummer, I agree. Super 6 has gotten messy, I agree. That is a bummer as well. Overall, I don't think it has been that bad of a year...it hasn't been great, but not terrible either. It's a happy medium right now with a terrific 4th quarter coming up. Escalante-Roman Froch-Kessler Wonjongkam-Kameda Poonsawat-Hosono Brinkley-Stevens Calderon-Segura Adamek-Arreola Angulo-Julio Dirrell-Abraham All of these were good/great fights...and there's one notable fight I can't think of right now, but anyway all of these have been good fights, and this isn't even including the Luna-Luna battle or the Arroyo-Okada 4 round scrap either. Like I say, overall it's not a great year like these last 3 years or so, but it hasn't been that bad. Also, we got a 4th quarter that is looking up.
Man were we ever spoiled in '07 Just off the top of my head just the last four months of that year: September: MW title fight between Pavlik-Taylor. Great fight with a definitive ending. October: Barrera-Pacquiao II- Barrera came to survive, and hey we all wanted Pacquiao_Marquez II anyway November: Kessler-Calzaghe SMW title fight- Hot crowd enertaining fight Mosley-Cotto- Hot crowd, excellent fight, especially the first 6 rounds December: Hatton-Mayweather- SUPER hot crowd, enertaining fight Add in the rest of the year of Pavlik-Miranda. ODLH-FMJ, Marquez-Vasquez I and II, Cotto-Judah, Barrera-Marquez, Morales-Diaz (good fight), Katsidis-Earl, and many more.... Wow, we were due for an off year.. Boxing will be back, especially once TR and GBP gets their heads out of their asses and realize again, they can make more together than by themselves..
