Am I the only one who feels like this?

What a year it has been for his character and image. You can see the fire burning in him in every public appearance still, but he has become a lot more relaxed and intelligent. The world is really starting to accept and praise him the way they never did during his career. Everyone knows he has social issues, but the difference is now they understand and sympathize.

His image is really changing in my mind the more I hear and see from him this year.

Here is a ceremony for him I believe, where he talks about past fighters, and gets a bit emotional:

If you think about it.....Tyson is like one of us ESB classic members becoming a champion. We would be praising the old timers every chance we got, and that's exactly what Tyson does. Everyone knows he watches boxing films all the time, or at least he used to, but people don't realize what a big fan he is. He could come in these forums and school 99% of us on exact locations and dates of fights of the old.

Here is a radio interview, showing he more casual humorous side of Tyson. Never befroe this interview had I seen him so....."normal"

If this happened 20 years ago, this reporter would have gotten a much different reaction

its amazing to hear him say the second fight with ruddock finished him....because thats exactly what ruddock said {about himself} too..that tyson finished him as a fighter in the second fight.

Yeah, he was completely honest about the Ruddock II fight. Said it ****ed him up and he was never the same. I probably believe him.

Wow, that is some very interesting food for thought. Thanks for posting.

And I have thought the same thing--in '09/'10 we started to see the "comback" of Tyson, perceptionally. His stock is definitely going up, and I think it will only continue to. He got a lot of well deserved backlash over the last 20 years, but I think now people are getting over it, and his accomplishments in the ring will start to be more recognized.

can't wait to watch these videos.

You couldn't be more right Reznick, he has re-invented himself. With his documentary and Oprah visits, Tyson has seemingly become a sympathized and changed man. A figure/man searching for peace. He seems to be more accepted.

Yea, and especially the Oprah visits!

On a sidenote, the Oprah episode convinced me more than ever that he is easily one of the most knowledgeable when it comes to boxing history. The emotion he shown when explaining the greatness of Ali. Man that was emotional. I feel him....Ali was such a great boxer, theres really no words...it was art.

What's also funny is that before witnessing this growth of Tyson, I would have never considered "character" a huge trait when judging a boxer and his accomplishments in the ring. But just getting to understand Tyson a bit more, and hearing what he really went through, makes him a greater boxer in my mind. I know it sounds crazy, but it is what it is.

You know, it's funny, this just brought back a memory from the night he fought Ruddock the second time. I had bought the PPV, and had some friends over, and the guy that lived above me obviously bought the thing too. On the occasions when Ruddock landed a good shot and dazed Tyson, I could hear him yelling from the floor above me "FINISH HIM!! FINISH HIM!!"

Tyson knows a lot about boxing. He knows the modern fighters dont stack up to the legendary old-timers, the guys like Harry Greb.

Which is why HBO, Showtime, etc, should snap this man up! When he commentates on a bout, people listen & take note of what he's saying. And he would enjoy doing it! Tyson might say he's not in love with boxing any more, but makes no mistake, he still likes the sport!

He must, to a certain degree, miss Boxing! He was champion of the world, dominated the division, etc, he must miss that to a certain extent!

I'd love to see him fill that role, personally. But I think he would be too loose with his mouth for most people...even HBO, hahaha. There's not having a filter.....and then there's Mike Tyson.

Your right, I would also like to see Tyson commentate. They should try it at least once, and see how it goes

I believe much of the sympathy is due to the untimely death of his baby daughter.
