[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJrGEdFYLk0[/ame] Meant to post this last year - the current state titles reminded me plus i have footage of Michael Humphries sparing Mark Basile last week as the oz team finished up their worlds training camp here in melbourne. (i'll post the sparing footage after worlds just so as not to upset anyone) interesting thing to note re this fight is it shows how important the legs are to punching - during the 3rd round Humphries rolls his ankle and for about 40seconds, until the endorphins kick in, he can't punch. also this is the first time Humphries had ever shared a ring with a lefty. we couldn't for the life of us find any southpaws available and of weight and class. Both humphries and Blake Wells have obvious pontential despite being as green as they are willing
Thanks Raxman. Good close willing fight from the two boys. Also shows that boxers weren't being rewarded for their work with the electronic scoring system. A final score of 5-4 seems to be way off the mark. Hopefully recent changes to the system have helped to address this.
done. although in fairness he was learning as he went with the southpaw thing and i think he was just trying to guard against the right hook which from the video we had studied was Blake Wells' main weapon - Wells' fight prior to the titles was a fairly lopsided loss to another guy from our gym - Jack Game - against Jack he threw loads of lead hooks, hooks off his jab and well just loads of right hooks - of course come the fight he threw hardly - to this day we don't know if they tried to play us - if they did it almost worked and the fact we didnt have a southpaw to spar with probably helped in the end after the worlds i'll post the vid i have of him sparing Mark Basile just last week - you'll see how much he has improved in 9months - espec his work on the inside - with both hands. by no means am i saying he gets it over Basile but he certainly isnt out of place in the ring with him and was able to provide exactly what the oz coaches wanted from the sparing partners
absolutely - i can post his fight from the weekend when the scoring system first changed - the score line is 22-7 in that fight, a far cry from 5-4
