Aslong as Pac is active, even if he fighting bums he'll remain number one.

This is correct, it isn't really possible for Martinez to get the scalps needed to overtake a Floyd or Manny. He would have to clean out SMW to come into contention.

I personally dont think it's possible for him to do it in 2011. The competition isn't there for him right now, he's got a TBA coming soon, after which he'll probably fight Cotto. I doubt he'll have 3 fights so it's pretty much impossible for him to overtake Pac, unless Pac actually loses his next 2 fights.

Maybe in 2012/13, should he clear out the entire MW division he might just be regarded as the no.1. Unless of course, he fights and beats Mayweather at 154.

Pac should grow some balls and fight him instead of fighting shot, old fighters

I can't see enough worthy opponents out there for Martinez to claim #1. We all know Mayweather and Pac won't touch him at 155, let alone 160. He's not going to get #1 ranking (whether he deserves #1 ranking or not) if he beats the likes of Felix Sturm. And Sturm wants nothing to do with Martinez. Martinez is 'in a bind', as they say. And, personally, I think he's way too small and too hittable to compete with the top 168lb fighters.
