Very interesting figures imo. oh and yes I know we aren't getting a penny of that money, so all you ****ers who cry every time someone mentions a boxer's purse can gtfo
here's the article which refers to another article in the sports business journal http://mmapayout.com/2012/01/hbo-showtime-in-bidding-war-for-boxing-in-2012/
35 mil is for WCB and BAD shows where the network distributes the fights to it's subscribers, PPV is separate.
It works totally differently. I would suppose that each PPV fight is evaluated separately; they don't have a yearly budget
the budget really doesn't mean much. they've had big budgets in the past and ran out of money before the year was over because they supposedly paid more than what the fights were worth. the problem, imo, lies with hbo trying to create stars...rather than letting the chips fall where they may. hbo puts all their eggs in one basket with some of their fighters...whereas showtime will allow the chips to fall. winner keeps going...loser gets to the back of the line. most times on hbo...the guys who win by upset disappear. on showtime, they become stars. maybe that will change now that ken h is at hbo. the budget issue is what it is...anyone who deals with budgets understands that if u don't use it, u lose it. and as a result ur budget gets smaller every year. it's in their best interest to spend all the money they have...but spending it wiser seems to be the key.
anyways showtime puts on better matchups dollar for dollar but it will be interesting to see now that Ken is with HBO
