This past weekend was a huge disappointment. There is no argument that Mayweather/Maidana lacked excitement and that the undercard was poor to say the least.

However...that card cannot cover over the fact that for the hardcore fan this year has been amazing. We've had some great fights, new break out stars, a chance to see how good some lesser known fighters are and the chance to show how good the little known guys are.

The highlights, at least for me, have been fights like Gonzalez/Yaegsshi, Estrada/Segura, Diale/Eto, Guerrero/Rosas, Coyle/Brizuela, Inoue/Hernandez and Guerrero/Kamegai. Likewise fighters like Golovkin and Kovalev continue to make a name for themselves, Tomoki Kameda getting widespread attention, Kosei Tanaka, Evghen Khytrov, Usyk and Lomachenko all getting attention.

That's without mentioned Ken Shiro, Stamp Kiatniwat, Eakatawan, Sho Ishida, Callum Smith, Rex Tao (just watching him go to war with his shadow would be entertaining).

The year, for a true fan, has been amazing. For those who concentrate on just big fights and big names, I feel really sorry for you.

    Mayweather vs Thurman
    Garcia vs Matthysse 2

That's the best card out there
