There really wasn't much of a time scale between Vitali vacating the WBC title and Wilder beating Stiverne for it. 2013 Klitschko retired. 2015 Wilder win s belt. So, if we have Vitali deciding to have one last defence, against unbeaten Wilder in 2014? Is this a crowning glory fight for Wilder? Or a last great fight for the elder K Bro?
Vitali beats him up and stops him if Vitali can take Lewis's punches flush, especially that uppercut that snapped his head back. I don't see Wilder's single right hand having an effect on Vitali. Plus Wilder doesn't have the skill to land that right hand frequently on Vitali.
I would like to have seen this fight, really would! Vitali, though no spring chicken, would have had experience and, yes that chin. This fight would possibly have shown Wilder up early and wrecks his confidence. He had years blasting pretty much easy picking s and never tested. Shame we didn't get this fight, mate.
Shame we never got Wladimir vs Vitali, and that's why Klitschko era sucked. Because the only fighters who could challenge them was fighting eachother.
I have to favor vitali but I don’t think it’s an easy fight. Deontay has a chin, heart and possibly more fire power than anyone Vitali has faced. He also matches him in height and is usually in great shape. And Wilder is no stranger to fighting big men..
Lewis, Sanders, Peter, Briggs, are all big punchers. And Sanders and Lewis are far more dangerous fighters than Wilder in my view. Wilder has been hurt by some pretty average and below average oppositon, has suspect stamina and very crude boxing skills. I think Vitali does a number on him personally without too much trouble.
Unlike all the other guys in this thread and their brothers, , Jerry and Mike did actually did beat each other's brains out...but in training only...... '
Not sure how any of this makes your case. Lewis and sanders were both in their late thirties and on the ass ends of their careers. One of them beat vitali while the other gave him a hard fight. Briggs was ancient. Peter wasn’t the fighter that wilder was. For all we know vitali might very well beat wilder without working up a sweat, but not based on anything you’ve written…. Sorry
Sanders was coming off the best win of his career vs Wladimir, he's a hard hitting Southpaw with quick hands. He's a more dangerous opponent than Wilder IMO, and whilst Sanders was brave he was still beaten up pretty convincingly. Lewis was old yes but still better than any version of Wilder. Peter was limited but still was a very hard puncher. Briggs was also old yes but he still has a big punch. My question is Magoo is what performance from Wilder makes you think he can compete with Vitali ? i've never been impressed with Wilder outside of his right hand. His skills at times look amateurish he has suspect stamina, and whilst he did show some courage vs Fury. He still only won like 4 rounds in the 3 fights they fought, Vitali has an iron chin can fight at a decent pace for 12 rounds, and can also punch aswell as evident from his high KO ratio. I see nothing in Wilder where he can match up to Vitali IMO.
Vitali coming out of retirement with 2 years of inactivity at age 43 with no tune ups and a body that's falling apart? Wilder should win, but Vitali will at least make him work for it. A fresh prime confident Wilder would easily be one of Vitalis top 5 opponents.
Sanders wasn’t coming off of anything except 13 months of inactivity at age 38. The Wlad win was the only meaningful one of his career and he entered the vitali fight with a tire around his waist. He lasted 8 rounds landed some big shots and certainly looked as though he handed vitali a knockdown even though it was ruled a slip. Lewis was 37, off for 12 months, fighting at a career high weight, suffered a recent defeat from Rahman and still managed to get the win. Yes Peter was a hard hitter…. So was wilder. Briggs had a big punch but so did wilder and I’m assuming if this fight came off it wouldn’t be when wilder is 40+ years old. To answer your question, wilder had had Tyson fury down a combined 4 times in their 3 fights. He knocked out the undefeated Luis Ortiz who was an extremely hard hitting southpaw. He stopped 41 of his 42 wins. Wilder may be limited and vitali should be favored as I stated already. But I don’t necessarily see this as being the mismatch you’re making it out to be. Worse fighters have gone rounds with Vitali
