That's about the only known female boxer to be honest. There were also Rijker and a couple of other in the past I guess.

Yeah, it must be her reputation and consistency netting votes. Her actual 2014 was very solid - four world class victories - but unlike several other ladies on the list she lacked one that can IMO be classed as over an elite. :think (let alone more than one, like both Rodriguez and Persoon...)

She unified all the belts and became undisputed champion in 2014. The opponent was probably not that good, but there's historical significance if nothing else.

That is true, actually - she had already been mostly unified champ since way back in 2011 but did finally add the IBF with her shutout of Habazin.

The four major legitimate sanctioning bodies transcending both genders, too. (women's boxing does have a few others recognizing world titlists, which are taken slightly more seriously than any male pretender org just because of the shallower talent pool - but the WBA/WBO/WBC/IBF are the "big four" as the counterparts to what have long stood as the main four in the male ranks)

If you adopt criteria as strict for women as for men and disregard everything but those four, then Braekhus actually has by far the best active record in the sport. (Persoon, for instance, goes from 6-0 (3) in world title bouts - counting the likes of the WIBF, WBF, WIBA, etc. - to 3-0 (2), recognizing only her single IBF and two WBC lightweight title wins - and her unification last year of the WIBF/WBF/WIBA titles ceases to mean anything...)

Still, I can't help but feel that Farias by UD (however close) and Prazak by dominant shutout & TKO (even with the size advantage) ought to rate as much better victories h2h than any of Braekhus' last year. Throw in cast-iron journey-woman Waguthii and you have two great and one decent victory stacked against Braekhus' four very good. Tough call, but I stand by my Persoon vote. Even with a nod to Braekhus for unifying the four major belts, which actually is a huge feat in women's boxing. I have the "First Lady" a very close 2nd as F'erOTY.

To be honest I don't even know those other female boxers. Braekhus is pretty popular and fights on Sauerland cards so it's hard to miss most of the time. I don't know about those other titles or belts, other than WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO.

I don't know Persoon, guess that it could go either way, but judging by the record on paper, she fought 3 times (only 2 world title bouts) while Braekhus fought 4 times, unyfing all the titles and defending undisputed championship in the process.

Here's a little background on her:

Very tight race between her and Braekhus, IMO, with Rodriguez and Muciño a ways behind them.

I'd be okay with Braekhus getting the nod, but like I said it just seems a bit strange with her not having beaten a single elite while others have beaten one, in some cases two in the same calendar year.

    Ay dios mio!!!

I'd pay just to stick my head in her gym locker and inhale the fumes.

Pequeña Lulú ain't much of a fighter, though, is she? :yep Guess that's asking for too much all in one little package.
