2014 Upset of the Year

It was 50-50 IMO but there was a lot of Brit hype around Funtime. Even those familiar with Bundu seemed to just dismiss him as "solid, for a Euro champ" but just a stepping-stone for Gavin on his way to ambitions of a worldlier bent.

Too bad. People should watch more boxing, or not comment as if they are informed.

I completely disagree. The only consideration ought to be how (relatively) big an upset, not how big the names involved. 'By proportionately how much did actuality eclipse the expectations?' - that is the pertinent question, and nothing else matters.

No mild upset can or should ever be up for "Upset of the Year" candidacy, barring in years wherein there were virtually no upsets.

Brook vs. Porter wasn't an upset. Porter was slightly favored maybe, principally among the American fans, and only because of very transparent hype that anybody following both his and Brook's career for any reasonable length of time could've (and in the case of many of us, did) see through.

Those same American idiot "fans" who bought into Showtime's and Golden Boy's hype and thought Porter to be some kind of welterweight reincarnation of Mike Tyson - probably have never heard of Ryo Miyazaki or Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr. (or Sak's legendary dad) ...but I promise you, Sakkreerin Jr. KO3 Miyazaki is 1,000,000 bigger an upset than Brook MD12 Porter in the eyes of anybody with even a foggy idea of what is what in boxing.

Loreto was a 10-1 underdog versus Joyi (they rematch on Sunday in S. Africa)

I didn't even consider that an upset, to be honest.

If that was, then so was Castellanos over Juarez.

I knew Rios was just waiting to get exposed ever since his gift over Roger "Speedy" Gonzalez. on Solo Boxeo years back - and Castellanos is way better than his record suggests. :good
