I hate to say it but it looks like Golovkin will have a mediocre 2016. Perfect situation for the guys around his weight class. Billy joe won't fight him (duh). Tureano Johnson is the April fight opponent. They will be lucky to get 10k in attendance. Which isn't bad but a step down from his MSG sellout. But what happens in SEPT? Will GGG drain down to 155. I don't see it happening. Will Canelo accept the fight at 160? Not in 2016. That leaves poor choices for GGGs SEPT fight. Jacobs, Quillin Lara are out of the running due to Haymon HBO rift. GGG will have to look even further down the rankings ladder.

What a shame. A good talent going to waste. By 2017 he will be 35 and could start slowing.

Hopefully Wilder beats Splizka then Povetkin. I'd love to see Wilder fight the winner of Wlad/Fury.

When did he have a spectacular year?

    I can't remember. Sorry.

The GGG bum circuit will continue through 2016.

They should have it at 160 but I could see a compromise done at 157 max.

It's a weird situation when the superstar is a pretty clear betting underdog against a guy who'll probably get a 25 % share max.

Now, try to make that fight...

That's why it's time to move up. Especially if he doesn't get Canelo in 2016. Waiting for Canelo fight to 2017 is a risky move. What if Canelo loses to someone else in all the time?
There are better fights for Golovkin at 168. After Johnson, if he can't get Canelo, he has Heiland. Wow. A dude with 4 losses. Golovkin would be lucky
To get 5000 fans to watch that fight

Who's there for him @168? You mentioned the HBO-Haymon situation, that rules out fights with DeGale, Jack and Dirrels. Abraham would be a nice scalp but a win over him won't prove anything. Chudinov is still sort of unproven and I don't think he'll be more eager to fight GGG than Saunders is right now. So he might as well stay in his natural weight class keep taking on the best available challenger.

Even contenders at 168 like Groves or Bika would be a better challenge than the bums at 160.

No they wouldn't. With Froch and Ward leaving, middleweight is a deeper division than SMW with better talent pool.

It's only January the 17th and you guys have already written off Golovkins 2016?
Certain people on here would love Golovkin to miss out on all the big fights

Fighting Canelo would actually make 2016 his best year.

BJS just said no. Canelo won't budge from 155. The rest of the 160 pack has already been starched by GGG or is with Haymon. Johnson and Heiland are sorry fights for a talent like Golovkin.

At 168, a Bute fight, Groves, Abraham fight would garner much more interest. GGG can stop that lanky Ramirez too.

His trainer just went on record saying that regardless of Canelo's decision, they will get the wbc belt. Ideally they will fight Canelo but if he chickens out, they will move on. We will see how well canelo does against the talent at light middle, since no one will take his mw run seriously.

I predict serious trouble selling his future fights at mw when all 4 belts are in Genady's hands.
