They are only going to be allowed box amateur if they have under ten fights and signed up to the aiba new pro body that they are setting up next year .

 

ALL athletes should be allowed to get paid...especially if they find means to. Many do. Somebody is getting paid...why not the athletes.

Remind me, in the original Olympics the Greeks put on, were they the second-class athletes competing or were they the Best of the Best.

All those supposed "Amateurs" of today are mostly the best in their sport. Why not boxing?

No. Amateur and Professional should be kept separate. You think any of the teenage medalists in history would have won a medal with a current champion in the other corner.atsch Olympic Gold medal is the highest honor in amateur boxing and should be kept that way, not an additional trinket pros can win in their spare time.

 

How come the "Best" compete in most, if not all other sports in the Olympics?
Tennis, Basketball, Swimming, Volleyball, track and field, Gymnastics, etc.

The Olympics is about the Best competing. Did the Ancient Greeks use second rate athletes instead of allowing the best to compete ?

How come there is no AGE limit in the Amateur system? How come you have guys that have been seasoned amateurs, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 years of age, etc. going up against Kids?
How is that fair?

I can care less what the Gold Medal in the Olympics means to the "amateur" boxer. Its time we corrected it. If you can have the best competing in other sports, why not boxing?
They can have the World Amateur Championships for their highest honor. The Olympics however are for the Best Athletes in the World to compete for the Gods and the Crowd.

When you have Olympians sleeping in cars and the Head Guys flying first class...you got problems.

Let the best compete against the best. Don't you see that in the other sports? Tennis, Volleyball, Track and Field, Swimming, Gymnastics, etc?


Amateur system is Old School. They should no longer have control like they did in the past.

 

Did I say the current system is perfect? I also think amateurs should be allowed to earn through grants and sponsorship and such. That's different from letting world class professionals compete. But whatever, it doesn't matter what your views are as thankfully they will never get implemented.

You can't pick and chose which sports can have Pro athletes and/or the best athletes compete. That's not right. Everyone should then have second rate athletes.

That's not true. However why would anyone care? Amateur boxing has gone to **** with the headgear and the bull**** scoring systems. It would be mad to have pros going for gold, fighting for something other than money and would liven up the Olympics experience, for fans and amateur boxers involved.
