What's up, everyone! I use to participate in/run the MMA Prediction League in this forum. I came to start another league and saw someone else was already doing it. Is it cool if I join? I quickly throug a blog together and posted my breakdowns there: FightPrediction.com Light Heavyweight Title Fight Phil Davis(Champion) vs Ryan Bader *Current Odds: Davis -135 / Bader +105 Phil Davis has a more fluid style and a more varied attack, especially when it comes to kicking. Bader may or may not be physically stronger than Davis but he fights like he is, particularly the longer it goes. The Pick: Bader I expect this fight to look a lot like their first encounter, only I think Davis fixes some of the problems Bader presented him. I think Davis will probably win 2 of the first 3 rounds but fade down the stretch and allow Bader to press late for a decision win. Welterweight Title Fight Douglas Lima (Champion) vs Lorenz Larkin *Current Odds: Lima +155 / Larkin -190 Lima will attempt to use his size, strength and accurate jab against the faster, more mobile Larkin. The Pick: Larkin Larkin will use his faster footwork to set up angles and land quick counters and combinations. I'm feeling a stoppage in the 3rd or 4th rounds. Lightweight Title Fight Michael Chandler(Champion) vs Brent Primus *Current Odds: Chandler -800 / Primus +500 I think this is a fight in which the champion is taking on a challenger that isn't ready for this stage. Primus has shown good BJJ skills but it is against mostly unproven opposition. Chandler is a solid professional and though he may not be good enough to win UFC gold, he can compete with the top lightweights in the world. The Pick: Chandler Look for Chandler to use his wrestling skills to keep the fight where he wants, and use what appears to be a considerable hand speed advantage to get an early stoppage. Chandler tko 2 Fedor Emelianenko vs Matt Mitrione *Current Odds: Emelianenko even / Mitrione -130 Both fighters are 40. Well, Mitrione is 39 next month. Close enough. This fight will pit the often heralded greatest MMA fighter of all time against a larger opponent with considerable athleticism. Fedor will have an advantage in speed, though it is worth noting he will not be enjoying as much of an advantage here as would normally be the case. Mitrione, a former NFL player, is faster than most MMA fighters his size. Fedor fights in an orthodox stance and Mitrione is a southpaw. Both hold their chins in the air and will be susceptible to the other's power strikes. Two weapons to look for in particular will be Mitrione's left high kick and Fedor's looping right hand. Both fighters can crack and I thoroughly expect one, or both, to get chin checked early. I also wonder if Mitrione can stay composed if he rocks Fedor, or if he will follow him to floor and get arm barred while attempting to finish. The Pick: Emelianenko I feel Mitrione is too eager to mix things up and will give Fedor a chance to stun him with his over hand right and follow up with the finish. Fedor sub 1 rear naked choke Chael Sonnen vs Wanderlei Silva *Current Odds: Sonnen -175 / Silva +145 I've always found this to be an interesting match-up. Chael has the edge in wrestling, Wanderlei is a ferocious striker, both have exhibited elements of a submission game and both have proven grit and determination. Wanderlei has always been there to be hit but Chael is not an overwhelming power puncher. Chael's take downs are some of the best in the sport but he is facing a durable opponent that has never been submitted in an MMA bout. There is also no way of definitively arguing which has better submission skills. The Pick: Silva Sonnen's guillotine submission victory over Shogun is weighing on my mind. Sonnen was quick to try it on Ortiz in his last fight. Still, I think this match-up favors Silva. Sonnen may impose his wrestling early but I believe Wanderlei will find a way to eventually break free and reek a little Axe Murderer style havoc on his foe. Wanderlei Silva tko 2
