Does anyone have the full ballot? I saw this in the general forum. Some of the eligible boxers are: Donald CURRY (34-6, 25 KOs) Genaro HERNANDEZ (38-2-1, 17 KOs) Fernando VARGAS (26-5, 22 KOs) Meldrick TAYLOR (38-8-1, 20 KOs) Sven OTTKE (34-0, 6 KOs) Michael MOORER (52-4-1, 40 KOs) Dariusz MICHALCZEWSKI (48-2, 38 KOs) Rafael MARQUEZ (41-9, 37 KOs) Julian JACKSON (55-6, 49 KOs) Ricky HATTON (45-3, 32 KOs) My early thoughts are Curry has a real shot this time, as does Michalczewski. 2019 isn't going to be a strong class, Hatton will likely get in.
Here are all 32 on the "Modern" ballot www.bwaa.org/single-post/2018/10/12/BWAA-Info-Sheet-For-IBHOF-Nominees
And the following is the Old Timers ballot: Georgie Abrams Horacio Accavallo Joey Archer Jose Becerra Johnny Bratton Jimmy Carruthers Freddie Dawson Esteban DeJesus Tony DeMarco Hiroyuki Ebihara Alfredo Escalera Tommy Farr Tiger Jack Fox Ceferino Garcia Betulio Gonzalez Carlos Hernandez Rafael Herrera Al Hostak Harry Jeffra Peter Kane Pone Kingpetch Tippy Larkin Jose Legra Gus Lesnevich Freddie Little Jock McAvoy Raul “Raton” Macias Ernesto Marcel Freddie Mills Rinty Monaghan Davey "Springfield" Moore Gustave Roth Lou Salica Dave Sands Petey Scalzo Yoshiro Shirai Ernie Terrell Kid Tunero Rodrigo Valdez Jiro Watanabe
My fear is the Class will be: Calderon, Hatton, and Marquez. Maybe Pazienza in place of Marquez. But how strong of a chance do you see for Michalczewski? For a guy who's been on the ballot since 2011, this is his biggest chance; it's a shame the way the HOF works: popularity over achievement.
Curry and Dariusz and Moorer make it easy enough. Shaky vote for Ottke after that. For the oldtimers, Bratton.
I'm going with Chris John, MICHALCZEWSKI and Moorer but I don't see a slam dunk. I really wish MICHALCZEWSKI would have fought Jones and Moorer would have faced Hill or Maske at light heavy. I think Moorer was a killer at Light heavy but did not get a signature fight at that weight. With that said he is the first Southpaw heavyweight champ and one of the few light heavies to win the heavyweight crown.
How do they add people to other categories? I think the Pioneer class needs some additions I think George Taylor, Jack Slack, and Richard Humpries, should be added for starters.
I think Michalczewski has a good chance based on a weaker class and his accomplishments. Post more often here.
I can't see any standouts for the old timers. http://www.ibhof.com/pages/about/inductees/oldtimer.html
If the Hall of Fame was located in the UK, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank and Ricky Hatton would be no-brainer locks to be inducted this year. They were household names in the UK, wildly popular (or hated-in the case of Eubank), engaged and won significant battles during their eras, were involved in 'should boxing be banned' controversies (the Eubank-Watson II and Benn-McClellan fights come to mind), and were driving forces in the popularity of the sport in the UK during their careers. Eubank and Benn basically "were" the Super Middleweight division for years. They made it a division that fans wanted to watch. Before them, it was sort of a catchweight division for one-off fights or a layover for guys just making a transition from middle to light heavy. Since the Hall of Fame is located in New York, and there's always been an east coast bias among the writers and the voters, east coasters that no one thought were Hall of Famers when they were active, like Pazienza, McGirt and Taylor, probably have a real shot at becoming the next guys fans complain "shouldn't be in there."
I swear to God, if Ricky Hatton makes it in before Donald Curry and Julian Jackson, then something is vastly wrong.
Julian Jackson was one of my favorites when he was active. I hope he gets in. I'd like to see Benn, Eubank and Jackson get in. Curry, Hatton, (shrug?). Hatton beat Tszyu. Curry never beat any Hall of Famers (or anyone who is likely to ever get in).
