The latest ballot has been released and debate over who should occupy the five new slots in the modern category is usually a hot one, though there appear to be a few obvious ones this year. Granted that, I wanted to spark a little debate about the names on the list and how they would fare against one another, and about whose career was greater.

Two names that seem to be on many people's lips are Miguel Cotto and Meldrick Taylor. So, at their best, who would you have favored at 140 and at 147? How would each of them have fared if you could roughly swap their career paths? Who had the greater career overall?

Taylor would've given Cotto a beating at 140.

    This.

If the hand speed of Judah caused Cotto so much trouble, what would Taylor's do? If Cotto had Chavez's chin this would be a fantastic fight. But he doesn't.

Taylor by late stoppage or DQ after Cotto goes low too many times.

That's as may be - but germane to enshrinement, did he achieve more? I would say no.

Taylor at 140 would win a decision. Pure speed. Cotto wouldn't have a mark on him.

    At 147 Cotto by TKO.

No, not in his overall career he didn't. Although I'd argue his win over McGirt is better than any of Cotto's.

That is fair. I'd argue Mosley in '07 is rather somewhat close to Buddy in '88, but certainly wouldn't die on the hill of it being any better.

At 147 it’s Cotto all day long. At 140 Taylor was the faster better boxer but his durability issues would still make this a 50/50 fight in my eyes.

140: Toss-up, but I'm leaning towards Cotto. Taylor could very well win a decision, though.
    147: Cotto definitely.
