I didnt think they were. Neither is paticularly strong at the minute but it does take a bit of prestige away from the occasion. Shame.

    Arzola got robbed

Aibek Oralbay wasn't there, he could've been a problem for Surov. There were some big talents missing especially from America. America isn't strong atm but it's best heavyweights didn't show up

Surov has proved in this tournament he's a level above everyone. He was very impressive. I think he'd school Oralbay easily. His footwork would bedazzle the stiff Oralbay. Look how easy he made it look against the respected Abdullayev for example.

Surov, Ghadfa (olympic silver medalist) Chaloyan, Abdullayev, Arzola, Makhanov were there at super heavy. There was only really Oralbay and Zokirov missing of note. (Cruz moved down a division)

USA didn't even win a single medal at the other World Championships in Liverpool a few months ago, I think it's unlikely they would have here either. They need to rebuild atm.

The official reason that they are not competing because the IBA is still allowing Russian and Belarusian boxers to fight for their countries. I mean truly who gives a ****, as if that is some form of sanction that matters to anyone.

The secondary reason is that there is a new organisation controlled by the IOC called "World boxing". However, as this organisation "World boxing" is not holding any world championships it really is a joke. It just means the British/American amateurs do not get to compete in any world championships at all and sit at home on their hands. As the countries that do send boxers get to compete and win medals.

Yes most top British and American amateurs maybe also rans, but for the few that are half decent and could medal, it must be very frustrating for them.

Looks like the complete takeover from Murican and New Britain dominance is almost complete.

The irony of the outrage shun is that a lot of those 'Russian' fighters aren't even Russians.

This is nitpicking. Russia is a diverse country ethnicity wise (not racially). Around 30% of Russia's population are not ethnic 'Russians'. So it's to be expected. Anyway, half the team were ethnic Russians.

Not that any of this matters, they are all Russians, and all sang the national anthem when the flag was raised, who gives a ****.

Surov. The Uzbek who beat Kool. Shumkov. There were a few others but I don't remember their names. One was a Kazakh IIRC. Artaev who I've seen fight before but I also thought his opponent Alfiorau was good too

I don't follow amateur boxing near as closely as I used to
