At heavyweight the lighter the better, i fully expect deontay to come in around 203lb old school vs joshua. You wanns be as light as possible jell under 200lb if you can

Wilder gon be so fast this ortiz dude wont know what da hell

lighter isnt always better. but in wilders case i agree. u dont need that extra weight to get u tired. hes gonna be able to move and not get touched. to fast

I dont get why he is coming in a bit lighter. He is a lot faster than Ortiz already if he has a plan that requires speed he already has that advantage.

Whats 214? I know it as mixed meat chow mein.

Wilder won't come in that light. Wilder's weight is very consistent for a heavyweight. He stays between 219-229. He goes closer to 219 if he's going to be moving a lot because he's facing a puncher and closer to 229 for nonpunchers.

The real question is how heavy Ortiz will come in. Anything over 240 will start wearing him out as the fight progresses.

Wilder is a freak in the sense that he has the frame of a fully fledged heavyweight in terms of height and reach and a cruiser weight's walk around weight. If you can generate the same power as a heavier guy while being light its a plus. Carrying extra weight is only going to slow you down and tire you out over 12 rounds, Most HW's will lose strength and power coming in that light because its well bellow their bodys natural set point, wilder is naturally just that slim. more weight also doesn't automatically mean better punch resistance either, more weight can also lead to worse punch resistance. Hitting somebody who's light on there feet is more likely to knock then over or flying backwards than knock them out, Hitting somebody heavy is like hitting dead weight, they absorb the entire weight of the shot. Imagine punching an empty bottle of water compared to one full of water.

As long as Ortiz doesn’t hit him he should be fine.

Future Undisputed Cruiser weight Champion, it will be a first time in history and secures Wilder an ATG spot. Cruiser is in a near Undisputed status, so it can be a one fight deal.

Thanks for the update. Wilder must really be planning on being on his bicycle until Ortiz gasses and going for the knockout. I think 214 is pushing it a bit low for Wilder, but as long as he doesn't take any clean shots to the body it won't matter.
