Canelo seems a tad faster, looks sharper with each fight. But then look who he's fighting tho. He wouldn't look nearly as good with the mental warfare aside physical warfare monsters like Tito, Oscar, and Ike would provide. Technically Fernando was very, very good, better than Canelo, but got lured into brawls. Because of his heart and his underrated defense and chin he was able to survive 12 rounds with a prime Tito where most wouldn't survive the first round. Vargas was also a better puncher than Canelo and could land some nasty combinations. He also had a killer instinct, something I think Canelo has, but doesn't use as much. Post Tito Vargas just wasn't the same, but had he fought smarter he could of been the best fighter of his generation as many believed he would. Thrown in way too early.

He beat some contenders at 154 when he was like, 19-21 years old. He also gave a MONSTER Trinidad fits, gave DLH a VERY TOUGH fight, and fought a good battle with Wright and the first Mosley fight. Even though he lost all those fights (yes, even the Wright fight which was close IMO) that is all still better than anything Canelo has done at a similar age.

Vargas beats the ginger off Canelo. I think Canelo sucks and will be exposed eventually. Although, if they maneuver him correctly and don't feed him to the wolves then maybe he will turn out okay. I just think as of RIGHT NOW, a Vargas of similar age kills him.

He beat Yory Boy Campas in his 15th pro fight, beat Ike Quartey, Javier Castillejo, Raul Marquez, and Wright (close fight either way, I don't think either guy won by more than 7-5).

He did all that VERY YOUNG. Canelo has not sniffed that type of competition. To say he beat NO ONE is a joke and makes you sound stupid.

I gotta see much more of Canelo to pick him over Vargas, who was a very good fighter during his brief peak.

This mofo is just boosting his idol Tito kneegal Trinidad since he has a win over Vargas. But he seemed to forget ATG BHop destroyed his idol and owned PR th entire lead up to the fight plus the fight itself like a G.

Tito would have sent Canelo to an early grave.

There's far too many brain dead posters on the general forum.

Poll speaks for itself. The Ike Quartey Vargas fought would have killed Canelo.

    In the end... (Hindsight)
The Vargas fans will back down.

Alvarez career will dwarf Fernando's in the longrun.

Based on beating who??????? lol. My hunch is that he will never be greater than Vargas. Vargas shed his soul in the 90s and helped carry that era with his ****ing warrior heart by fighting LEGENDS.

I'll swallow my blood before I'll swallow my pride - Vargas

CANELO does not deserve any accolades right now in his career and to take him at this point and say he'll dwarf Vargas' career is disrespectful to what Vargas did in the sport of boxing. You don't measure a boxers career by who he BEAT, but WHO he fought, and HOW he fought. Vargas gets mad respect similarly to how Cotto will get respect once he retires, its who he fought and how he fought even in his losses that will carry them into the HOF.

Canelo? Hes got nothing to show yet and will have to show A LOT to "dwarf" Vargas.

Vargas shitted his career away & lost against "All" the big dogs.
Don't hate on Alvarez for being twice the fighter & well managed.
    (Without having to ROID)

Anyway... yeah Alvarez would have KO'd the welterweight Arreola.

Vargas had a "Glass jaw" get it ... "Glass"
    (never mind, tooo inside4ya)

The funny thing is that hardcore Fernando Vargas fans claim that Vargas was past his prime when he lost to Trinidad, and completely washed up by the time he faced Oscar.

Almost like how Tyson fans use the excuse that he was past his prime when he lost to Buster Douglas.

The fact is, Vargas was in his prime when he lost to Trinidad and De La Hoya, and Tyson was in his prime when he lost to Douglas.

You cannot go back, and arbitrarily pick a date before your favorite fighter's first loss as the end of their prime.

Anyways, I'll pick Canelo in this poll, since Vargas was supposedly passed his prime at age 22, and washed up at age 24.
