....you also cant pick a date and say it was a fighter's prime just because that's when he had his first defining fight

    another typical dumb**** esb poster.

no one that followed boxing in the 90's, which you obviously didnt, would ever say that vargas was washed up before the trinidad fight.

canelo has fought one person at 154 they was close to his prime and that came to fight and that was b-level ryan rhodes.

you probably have never even seen vargas fight.

Actually, as a Bernard Hopkins fan, I followed boxing very closely in the 1990's. (I may have been young, as I was born in July 1988, but I still remember the good fights of the 1990's, all the way back to Tyson-Douglas.)

Of course, at the time of the fight, no one believed that Vargas was anywhere past his prime before the Trinidad fight.

However, it is the 2010's now. Believe me, the passage of time, as well as the events that happened after that fight, have caused people to revise the history of his career.

I couldn't believe it when I did a google search, and found comments from a Vargas fan, who really believed that his prime was from 1997-1999, that it ended after the Winky Wright fight, and that he was washed up by the time he found De La Hoya. (Obviously, I do not believe any of this is true.)

In fact, I saw an article from 2001, talking about how Vargas (at age 23) was already on the decline. (This was written immediately after the Wilfredo Rivera fight, by the way.)

if you followed boxing in the 90's then you would never, ever mention prime vargas with canelo.

    EVER.

look at that **** with bazooka. canelo has never even fought anyone(other than possibly rhodes)even close to their prime and coming to win.

    not one person.

and if you followed boxing then you would know that there is a reason hoya is not putting canelo in with anyone near their prime(vanes, lara, molina, quillan) its because he will be exposed.

seriously, enough with this hes 22-years-old so give him a break.

hes the champion and should be fighting as such.

    ****ING JOSESITO LOPEZ.

    WHAT THE ****??

    Hey, welcome to boxing.

Seeing as that you've obviously only been following the sport for 5 months.

Had you read this, you would know that I have been on this site for 3 years, which makes it impossible for me to have been following the sport for only 5 months.

Some of ya'll really dksab or you trollin. A young fighter like Vargas could of been in his prime fighting Tito Trinidad, but he was damaged goods after that, no longer in his prime. Prime is a fighter at his best at a point in his career where he is in his mid 20' to early 30's. Vargas was no longer prime after the Trinidad fight and if you want proof watch the Wilfredo Rivera fight. He was damaged goods when he faced Oscar and, never gained a second wind like Cotto, Barrera, or Pacman have. Those 3 cameback from brutal beatings or ko's.

Vargas. We've seen all of him. Have not seen Canelo in even a little tough. Fernando shoulda beat De la Hoya, just didn't finish strong enough. He was the strongest 154 i've seen and Alvarez seems to like to brawl...

Agreed. There is no way in HELL Vargas ever reached his prime. Anyone that thinks Fernando Vargas reached his 'prime' is delusional.
