Fernando was in his prime when he fought Tito. That much is not debateable. As for being in his prime vs. DLH, not a chance. Not shot, but certainly not in his prime anymore. Anyone who saw Vargas fight before and after Tito should be able to see the difference in Nando. So, for this threads sake, Pre0Tito Vargas vs. Canelo, that's an easy pick. Fernando. At that time, Fernando had already beaten to excellent fighters in Ike and Winky. Canelo hasn't even faced anyone who's comparable. We've seen Fernando face adversity. Haven't seen that from Canelo due to his competition, which is just poor.

There's very very few boxers that reach their prime at 21-22 though. I mean Tyson is honestly the only one I can think of . just don't see how Vargas at age 21-22 could have been in his prime. I think he just never reached his prime, Tito and Oscar ruined him early.

I guess that depends on what one means when discussing a fighters' Prime. Prime, in my opinion, is when one was at their peak. When they were at their very best. Prime isn't dictated by age at all. So, with that, Vargas' prime was short, but very sweet. He was never the same fighter after facing Tito. Getting wobbled by Flores and dropped by Rivera. Wouldn't happen to Pre-Tito Vargas.

I think it's very much a case of someone experiencing circumstances which meant that their peak came too soon, and consequently that peak was all too brief because it was not timed correctly.
I can see what some people are saying but I'll always feel (with the benefit of hindsight) that Vargas should have been handled differently.
Winky and Quartey at what? 22-23 is going to take it's toll on anyone IMO.
Just one of those things that I genuinely believe.

What a fight that would be.
Could you imagine the crowd for that one.
I would favour Vargas, but wouldnt bet against either. Canelo has always upped his game when pushed.
I think Vargas, in less fights, had fought at a higher level and that may just be the thing that carrys him through, what would not be an easy night, however it goes.
