a lot of amateur boxing gyms in Europe(don´t know about USA),dosen´t have the right headgear or protection equipment, when the boxers are sparring with each other. When i started to box about 25 years ago,we had gloves and a mouthpiece, and that was it!! And im living in denmark not in congo...(sorry congo). It is so sad when the gyms don´t have the right sparring gear,so the fighters have to use NOTHING...!!! In this case i feel really sad for the familly and the loved ones. R.I.P.
He died in training camp in Australia and was a successful amateur i doubt he didnt have the right equipment. But its true in Europe boxers use way smaller gloves to spar than here in the US. I remember sparring with an italian kid and his punches was hurting, till someone pointed out he wears a 14 oz gloves.
