Solo Boxeo: Danny Garcia vs. Jorge Romero & Nasiff Castillo vs. Miguel Garcia RBR

Danny Garcia vs. Jorge Romero

Round 1

Garcia blocks a few lazy left jabs and brings a right cross hammering into the face of Romero. Garcia continues to take his time, letting Romero lead and countering him with potshots while using head movement and subtle footwork to avoid getting hit. Garcia lets Romero feint his way around in a complete 360 degree circle without leading before stepping in with a jab and then putting a right uppercut on the body of Romero. Garcia sticks his right hand out to deflect an attack from Romero and then hits him with a counter hook.

Round 2

Garcia is becoming more aggressive and leading with right hands. Romero tries to push Garcia back with a fat three punch sequence but gets countered down the middle as Garcia holds the fort. Romero feints and flicks a jab to the body as he rolls his upper body around. Romero keeps advancing behind a crooked jab and then retreating when Garcia begins to show signs of countering. A Romero hook misses. Garcia misses an uppercut to the body and then continues to threaten with the punch, throwing it partway but "checking his swing" as Romero backs up. The two begin to swing freely and miss; Garcia not able to land on the undulating target of Romero and Romero not planting himself long enough to land on Garcia.

Round 3

Romero up-jabs at the forehead of Garcia but is unable to execute the punch in a timely manner, and gets countered hard to the face with a right hand. Romero straightens the jab out but it's still too slow to land flush. Garcia is looking relaxed, blocking jabs and leaning around to go for the body of Romero. Garcia tries to plant a left hook under the elbow of Romero but gives up easily as Romero starts moving around. Romero throwing little but slow jabs as he skips around and jockeys for position. Romero barely misses a lunging lead right as Garcia takes a half-step back.

 

Round 4

Both are swinging for the fences now, and both largely missing due largely to the erratic movement of Romero. Garcia lands a short left hook but it's blunted and he's unable to follow up. Romero flurries at Garcia's face and nearly catches him head-slipping, then Romero's guard is bashed in with a stiff Garcia jab. They paw at each other a bit to the bell.

 

Round 5

Isn't "blanco" Spanish for "white"? :huh The graphic just described Garcia's trunks as "plateado y negro" and Romero's as "azul y plateado".

That's weird anyway, as Garcia's trunks are clearly tri-color...black and white and green (which to my knowledge would be "negro y blanco y verde").

Speaking of the trunks, most of the punches now are landing just above them. Garcica is keeping true to his namesake, walking swiftly around Romero and throwing pendulum punches at him down low. Romero suddenly has a burst of aggression and chops at Garcia with both hands, backing him to the ropes and following him across the ring despite eating a crisp counter right hand.

 

Ah...plateado means silver. :good

Looking a bit more closely now, Garcia's trunks are green, black and silvery-white. Romero's, however, are pure snow white and blue. His should not be described as "plateado" at all.

 

Round 6

Romero follows Garcia around with his chin hanging straight up in the air, hooking at him recklessly. Garcia turns Romero and jabs, missing a bit but getting a feel for range. Garcia catches Romero with a pair of very hard left hooks as Romero chases the bait. Romero jabs high and tries to follow up with a quick combo to the body but Garcia shuts him down with quick counters. Garcia puts up a high guard and absorbs fire from Romero before exploding with a hook and right hand.

 

Round 7

Garcia uses his right hand like a jab, sticking it out and holding Romero off with it, bouncing it off the taller man's face and using it to maintain range. A few body shots from Garcia. Romero doing a lot of ducking and rotating from the waist up, trying to lean in with his shoulder and get into a spot to wail on Garcia's body. Before he can make much of a dent the bell rings.

 

Round 8

Garcia starts to jerk Romero's head and cause it to bobble on his neck with very hard right hands and left hooks. Garcia is no longer investing to the body and is strictly headhunting, mixing in some uppercuts to the chin as he twists from side to side. Romero keeps coming forward and jabbing and throwing to the body despite being countered constantly. Romero has his jab go wide of Garcia's head and eats a Garcia jab simultaneously.

 

Round 9

Romero pushes out his jab repeatedly. Garcia hangs back and waits. They close rank and begin to trade, and while Garcia's arms get webbed up by Romero's initially he is able to drop Romero with a clean left hook to the jaw. Romero pops right up but is swarmed by a quartet of hard unanswered hooks that have the fight waved off.

 

Nasiff Castillo vs. Miguel Garcia, bantamweights (6 rounds)

Round 1

Castillo boxes around on the outside behind a southpaw jab, while Garcia tries to land a heavy right hand but is clearly the slower of the two. Castillo opens up a bit and both land. Double uppercut from Garcia. Garcia punching hard to both the head and body. Castillo controls the range and pace with his right jab but took a couple of heavy blows from the stockier, stronger Garcia.

Round 2

Castillo scores with a wide array of textbook punches - right jab, right hook, left cross, left uppercut. Garcia for his part just keeps trying to club his way inside. They get forearm-to-forearm and Garcia is able to use his strength to push Castillo slightly away and into range for his short bombs. Castillo getting beaten up a bit on the inside. Castillo jabs his way back out and hammers Garcia to the corner with a rangy combination. Garcia's mouthpiece flies out of the ring. Garcia misses a couple of lead rights as Castillo keeps his distance and ceases coming forward to meet Garcia as soon as Garcia telegraphs the right. Castillo lands a pair of left uppercuts and they wind up in a corner, with Garcia flailing as Castillo leans against the ropes.

 

Round 3

Both punch fiercely at point blank, mostly using their lefts (Garcia using it as a left and Castillo as a straight punch). 2-1-2 combo from Castillo punctures the guard and backs Garcia up but the smaller man shakes his head. A wild uppercut misses from Garcia. Castillo lands another clean counter combo. Garcia throws a 1-2 from across the ring and gets jabbed in the face. Castillo stays on the outside, our of Garcia's range but also missing himself.
