The Mexican flyweight scored his second consecutive TKO win at home in Distrito Federal as he continues to rebound from a loss to out-of-nowhere pinoy upstart Rodel Mayol.

Sosa still looks sharp offensively at 30, only weeks removed from his 31st birthday. His defense has always just been "above average" for an archetypal Aztec warrior and he isn't the fastest boxer reflexively, but he's still able to dish out ample punishment in return for whatever leaks through on him. His hooks to the body in particular are very nicely thrown, and are some of the most Cotto-like you'll see this low in weight.

Sosa was riding a six-year, TWENTY-FIVE match win streak into the loss against Mayol. Most of his wins are over B or solid C level opposition but his signature victory is a good one, an upset majority decision over a then-floundering Brian "Hawaiian Punch" Viloria.

Most observers of the lighter divisions are hoping for a round-robin of rematches between Sosa, Viloria, and Ulises "Archie" Solis. Early in their careers, Sosa dropped a majority decision to Solis, which was his last defeat prior to the recent one. Recently Viloria stopped Solis late in an exciting and competitive match.

A miniature tournament or even just a series of rematches involving these three, and perhaps including journeyman-made-good Luis Alberto Lazarte (who currently holds the IBF flyweight title Viloria took from Solis; Lazarte has a DQ loss to Sosa on his ledger) would be a real treat for the fans and would help clear up the picture a bit as all of these men struggle to stay relevant with new blood coming up the ranks.
