After working his way up to the upper echelon at super middleweight, Pascal's reinvention at light heavyweight has brought him even greater success but with the same constant aura of rocky footing. This is one career that promises to be a thrill ride all the way, win lose or draw!

A rematch win over Chad Dawson and then coming through the fire of a showdown with fellow physical specimen Tavoris Cloud could put JP in the unexpected position of being crowned the "man" at light heavyweight - a role for which Dawson was all but unanimously agreed to be the heir presumptive to Bernard Hopkins. Pascal probably wouldn't even need the validation of beating B-Hop himself to earn the distinction, with the resume trajectory outlined above.

A lot of people call him a "poor man's Jones". This is a convenient and obvious comparison to make due to them sharing a weight class - but it doesn't ring true to me. Yes, both leap in with right hands and both rely a great deal on speed and reflexes. In watching Pascal in action, however - I see a lot more of a big Shane Mosley than a 175lb Roy Jones. Pascal exemplifies "Power-Boxing" with his style, with hardness and forward momentum taking precedence over sustained hand-speed and contact percentage in his combination-laden charges.

Even for those boxers that can execute it well in their prime, this style isn't suited to last well past the age of thirty (with the freakish Mosley being an exception to the rule). How long does Pascal's run at LHW last? How many more sizable notches will appear on his belt before then?

I am not so sure he will get by Bute.

Let's wait for the ink to dry before discussing Pascal vs. Bute as a certainty - especially since the immediate plan is to invade the US (and fight Joe Calzaghe :yep).

It would be a huge deal in Canada and quite the moneymaker, but they can probably wait a couple more years and let it really marinade into something huge (even though it's been talked about for years now already).

Think about it: Pascal wins a Dawson rematch, beats Cloud, and clears out a couple of other top names (maybe some of the European contingent). Bute fights and beats the Super Six winner and maybe a runner-up as well before moving up to LHW and tuning up against someone like an Elvir Muriqi to get used to the extra weight. Both look spectacular all the way. It would be one of the bigger fights globally, let alone in Montreal!
