ESPN2 Saturday Night Fights 8/28 @ 9pm EST: Omri Lowther vs. Henry Lundy RBR

This card, which will air live from Montreal, has been overhauled several times and was originally slated to feature David Lemieux vs. Marco Antonio Rubio. Then it was rumored Troy Ross would be headlining. Then the main event was set as Edner Cherry vs. Omri Lowther, but Cherry dropped out this week and was replaced by Hammerin Hank Lundy on four days' notice.

The slick volume-punching Lundy had been impressive on the regional circuit, but failed in his big step-up against John Molina on Friday Night Fights in July. Lundy had the fight well in hand with his superior boxing skill but got over-confident against a strong puncher and paid the price.

Lowther - who just last month shook off the rust of his second longest layoff - hasn't appeared in a major televised event since the ShoBox back in 2007 wherein TJ Wilson handed Travis Walker his first loss.

Here's a look at the Toronto-born 26 year old.

The following is incorrectly labeled "Omri's 7th match". His seventh pro match was against Ballard, above - and this is clearly a different fight. This is actually his 9th match, against Eric Burke.

There are a few unbeaten prospects on the undercard who could potentially appear in preliminary or swing bouts in the two hour broadcast.

The FNF season is over. This might just be a one-off (it was supposed to be a special presentation to showcase Lemieux and/or Ross, so this could have just been the date that worked best for the venue in Montreal, or the promoters).

The next ESPN2 boxing special isn't until November 11th, which is a Thursday.

 

Taking it on 4 days' notice, it wouldn't be the least bit surprising.
