Damn you, I had a cool "who said anything about training/strength/chinups/whatever?" line all set up. Scuppered.
Im **** at them too. I use the assisted pull up machine alot at the gym because Ive been wanting to improve my pullups.
It depends how much you weigh, if you 130, your pulling up 130 25 times, if your 220 your pulling up 220 25times. Either way 25 in 1 go is impressive for your weight, its just more impressive the heavier you are. I doubt most HWs can do 10, I knew a cruserweight pro who could only do 2. Chad Dawson apparently can only do a few. BTW I can do as many pull ups as chin ups, so I'm not sure if that unusual or just because I actually perform the chin ups properly. My best is 33 at 210lbs, I've done a single with 90lbs strapped around me. The best way to train them is do half as many for 10 sets, so if you can do 20, do 10 for 10 sets and add a rep each new workout
25 chinups is very good, I only knew about 2 guys that were able to hit that or more at one time, and they were both very skinny. When I was in my last year of highschool 5 years ago, I was 6'0 165, I was able to bust out 25, now I'm 195 pounds and can get out 18-20 in one shot. When I was 165 pounds I was also able to get out 8 or 9 one handed chin ups, now I could only do 5 or 6, which use to impressed most friends at the gym. Weight has alot to do with it, as well as your pulling power, I knew big guys that would out bench by 75 or 100 pounds, but couldnt do anymore than 2 or 3 chinups, so size matters alot too.
im 145 and do 20 pull ups with 15kg on a dip belt..difficulty also depends on hand width..and using no swinging of the legs.. pull ups are the king of upper body training..
8 (maybe 9) chin-ups and 6 pull-ups is my latest update. My short term target is to be able to do 15 pullups (by next summer hopefully) and my long term is to do a single one-armed chin-up.
