Guillermo Jones vs. Valery Brudov & Luis Concepcion vs. Denkaosan Kaovichit RBR

Feider Viloria and Irving Berry are walking out for a 10 round featherweight match.

 

Round 1

Berry stalks and throws lead rights recklessly, trying to simply distract Viloria so he can go to the body. Viloria jabs and rolls his shoulder, preferring to box from the outside and keep his distance. A 1-2 backs Berry up but only momentarily. Berry lands a hard lead right to the chin a moment later and presses Viloria into a corner where they clinch. It gets a bit rough and pushy in the last twenty seconds.

 

Round 2

Viloria is sticking with the 1-2 and the clinch as Berry keeps trying to cannonball his way inside and work the body. Viloria down - slip. Berry is loading up on massive overhand rights and missing them as Viloria ducks the telegraphed blows but pulls out rather than exploit Berry being open to counters. Viloria seems eager to box as carefully as he can. Berry tries to swarm him and switches to southpaw temporarily to no avail. Viloria is using his height and jab and maintaining distance.

Round 3

Viloria keeps his left arm out to jab or push Berry away. Berry is again showing southpaw and gets his left arm pretzeled with Viloria's right in a clinch. Viloria jerks his arm free and rabbit punches Berry, who goes down in pain. The referee warns Viloria and they resume action. Berry is ducking down and throwing orthodox 1-2 to the body and then straightening up and flurrying at the face of Viloria, who reacts too quickly to get caught. Berry again goes down, this time from an unintentional low blow. Viloria receives another warning for this different violation. Berry comes back at him with feisty overhand swipes of his left and right. Viloria backs up to the ropes and tries to toss a wet cloth on Berry, using his long arms to push down on his back.

Round 4

Viloria is now the aggressor, throwing his long 1-2 and running in through the trail it blazes. Berry crosses his arms in a shield and they tie up. Berry hooks his way out of one clinch and catches Viloria leaning straight back, and follows up with another hook from less of an angle (more perpendicular to his body as a hook ought to be). Viloria is getting backed up by Berry's high-thrust jab and having his counter 1-2 ducked. Berry is effective getting inside and touching Viloria low.

Round 5

Berry is hurling sandbags at Viloria and forcing him to throw punches that are shorter and in combination (out of his comfort zone on both counts). Berry isn't terribly accurate but is outfighting Viloria and getting the better of the exchanges, and is certainly the ring general at this point. Viloria sticks his jab out as a yardstick and keeps clear of Berry for a while. Berry is fighting southpaw again and winging left hands from too far away.

 

Round 6

Berry is making Viloria miss with body-feints and a fluid neck. Viloria is caught by a few isolated pot shots, mainly to the body. Berry catches him up against the ropes and goes berserk with slapping shots to the face while Viloria tucks tight and leans back. Berry ducks down with his left hand low while Viloria tries to line up a long jab or 1-2 but has his height work against him in this regard. Berry slips a few more shots and sticks a jab in Viloria's face while circling him.

 

Round 7

Berry is moving around, changing directions, sliding in and out below Viloria's jabbing plane, landing left jabs and lead right uppercuts. Viloria clinches after one of the latter and then tries to regain the role of aggressor during the break in Berry's momentum. Viloria just can't seem to hit Berry when the shorter man is in the counter role, however. He settles for a few taps in the clinch, which is the only place he's connecting at all.

 

Round 8

After some big swings inside from both (neither landing), they repel out of a collision and Berry winds up on his back but kicks himself back upright like in a kung-fu movie. Viloria is turning his jab over sharply but falling short with it, while Berry is initiating clinches with his left arm, holding and hitting Viloria in the side with his right. It's ugly but effective as he's the only one landing.

 

Round 9

Berry follows Viloria with his hands low and launches rockets at him. Viloria loses his mouthpiece and a moment is taken to replace it. Berry jumps right on him at time-in and pesters him with short punches inside. Viloria tries to match Berry punch for punch but doesn't have the timing and doesn't like to throw combos. Berry winds up behind Viloria (a'la Hopkins-Calzaghe) and the Panamanians in attendance giggle. Viloria's 1-2/clinch formula is no longer yielding good results for him as Berry is putting a lot more leather on him than in the early rounds.

 

Round 10

Viloria grabs Berry behind the neck and pulls but is reprimanded. Berry is looking strong, whacking Viloria on the inside and forcing him to retreat. Berry pursues with no semblance of refined footwork, just determination and mean intentions. A huge lunging hook by Berry barely misses. Viloria is now clinching every two seconds. Berry is fighting his way free and nailing Viloria with overhand rights and bursts of point-blank fire. Viloria is making Berry duck with his 1-2 and quickly taking the opportunity to drop his arms on him and lock him up.

The fight's over. Either it was scheduled for 9 or there was a towel thrown in that escaped my notice.
