Ah of course, should have read the original posting more carefully as that is what you had cautioned.

So, how does the TV rating on Koki vs Naito compares to the Japanese World Series or other major sporting events?

UK boxing got kicked off terrestrial TV in large because the fighters they invested in started going abroad, or similarly jumping to PPV. A home fighter is a terrestrial TV friendly fighter. No one wants to invest money promoting a fight that isn't on till six in the morning.

the Japs are very patriotic people so it doesn't surprise me. I think that's maybe one flaw in Fury's approach that he's playing up the Irish ancestry, the likes of Haye knows the UJ shorts are good for business.

Yeah boxing is a big sport in Japan, I was surprised how big it in Japan. My girlfriend dad, is a boxing fan and hates Koki and the whole family, I watched some boxing with him.

Any idea how many of the fans in Japan follow fights in NA/Europe? I'm under the impression most just want to see their countrymen fight and aren't so much into international world class boxing.

No matter how they love boxing, Japan is home to the biggest number of paper champs in the world.

The real explanation is, they avoid dangerous fights. They rather fight bums and tomato cans in their country, rather than proving their skills against genuine opposition.
