Until I'm totally cold clear, it's tea and water for me, brother...Haven't enjoyed fights nearly as much.

    Round 1

Gesta is hanging in the pocket, letting Valle unload with a cookie-cutter up-jab & 1-2 attack and countering with an economical rationing of well-timed straight lefts occasionally turned underneath as uppercuts as part of extended power combos. Valle tries to ram through Gesta's guard with hooks but is backed up by the increasingly fast and ferocious sequences - not quite yet in major trouble as he covers up and gets into more of a defensive rhythm. A Gesta right hook has Valle suddenly down but he nods and gets right back up from his knees. He shortly after goes right back down momentarily from a straight left (assisted by a sweeping right hook that lands behind the neck...but the left did the majority of the damage), sprawled out with his legs akimbo. He scrambles up and holds his gloves high up by his ears to show he is OK but the ref seems hardly convinced and lets him go on with a shake of his head. Gesta bashes him on the inside while Valle smothers and survives the round.

    10-7 gesta

    Round 2

Valle is bombarded with a sharp southpaw 1-2 and then longer and more varied combos and retreats to the ropes with his hands up...Gesta follows and keeps slamming both fists into him and Valle clinches. After separating the two Pat Russell takes a hard look at Valle and decides he's in a losing battle and takes it out of his hands.

    Gesta TKO2.

A pair of Californian super bantamweights now make their debut (Christian Bojorquez and Salvador Cifuentes).

    Round 1

Bojorquez asks politely (non-verbally, mind you) if they could please have a jabbing contest. Cifuentes says (pardon my rough translation) "No, **** you" while clubbing forward with hard overhand rights. Bojorquez looks to adapt by counterpunching from the outside after gaining some distance with his feet, favoring a lead right followed by some mid-level hooks. Cifuentes keeps his thumbs at his temples and comes forward whacking away with hard overhands and haymakers.

    Round 2

Cifuentes has discovered the jab (probably having been screamed and cursed at by his corner during the commercial break). He plays with the new toy for about a minute and then decides to go with what feels right, leading with his face and some wide-arcing power shots telegraphed from literally behind himself (his hands swaying at his waist in-between punches). Bojorquez, despite seeming to have some idea of the mechanics of boxing, seems to somehow be having trouble with this constant wild aggression. His 1-2 seems too weak to discourage Cifuentes and his movement isn't sustained enough to keep him out of harm's way, so he winds up needing to tie up and/or punch with Cifuentes (again, unconvincingly).

    Round 3

Cifuentes walks his man into the corners, doing the full tour of the ring. Bojorquez is able to escape each without getting blasted into the bunkers, but is wearing his nervousness on his sleeve and isn't responding with enough jabs and lead rights to outscore the unglamorous but consistent hard body thumps of Cifuentes. Bojorquez suddenly stands his ground and lands a very effective 1-2 and seems to have Cifuentes' respect for the first time. He keeps hooking the shorter and older man in the face while having his organs drummed on.

    Round 4

Bojorquez is landing well, having realized he is the faster and more accurate puncher (especially from long range). Lou Moret warns him for rabbit punching when Cifuentes presents the back of his head. Cifuentes scoops the air before him with a hooking uppercut that Bojorquez easily slides away from. Cifuentes keeps blocking the longer, straighter, sharper punches of Bojorquez with his face but is getting his own overhead clubs and full-wingspan loopers in. Bojorquez nearly spits out his mouthpiece after one curving right hand crashes home.

    38-38 40-36 and 39-37 for Bojorquez

    I don't know about a shutout.

In a four rounder, though - especially with two styles that contrasting - yeah, judges are going to like different things. It's not that shocking.

Michael Franco scarfing down some baby food is next.

    Franco vs. Landeros

    Round 1

Franco snaps out yo-yo jabs and right hands out of a relaxed but chin-high stance. Landeros opts to put his eggs in the "hook, uppercut, and turn" basket and defends mainly by swiveling his hips with his hands down half the time. Franco is landing cleaner and cleaner with the right hand as the round goes on. Landeros is eating jabs even when his gloves are up, and acquiesces by jumping in close and trying to entice Franco into an inside war. Franco prefers to hang out at mid-range and calmly launch right hands, which bounce ever more grotesquely off Landeros' head.

    10-9 Franco
