    I'm excited for this one.

    Check the quotes

    1. Is Marquez getting better with age?
    2. Does Diaz have the potential to be the best in the world? He seems a nice chap, doesn't he?

Nice preview TFFP. is this really for both vacant WBO and WBA? Never heard of the alpha's sanctioning a fight for two vacant belts before and it sounds so sensible in this case for it to almost certainly be untrue!

I think Marquez is too precise for Diaz. UD for me.

Come on setanta, pick this one up too!

It is indeed for both straps. Fantastic.

I expect everybody is going to see Marquez as a winner in this fight. I think its going to be close.

I like Marquez to win this fight.
Now if they would just put the Chris John / Rocky Juarez fight up on my betting site I could make my Marquez / John parlay :good

I've gone with gut reaction and plumped for Diaz points. I had Marquez earlier.

There are too many variables to be confident here. Weight, age go against Marquez and I've sided with that.

However if Marquez handles the move up and he retains his freshness he should be too smart for Diaz.

Close call but I'm taking Diaz to outwork him.

Diaz will win clearly on points. 116-112 or wider.

To argue the case for Diaz...

The kid is a very strong lightweight. He looks flabby, but he has very good stamina, he's a good 12 round fighter, and he's tough and strong. Consider that Nate Campbell threw a crazy amount of punches at him, at least 1300, landing more, but Diaz threw close to 1000 in return. What this demonstrates is that he is quite willing to walk through a certain amount of punishment to land his own.

Campbell also largely had to beat him on the inside, he used veteran moves and his slickness and experience in the pocket was the key. Not to mention the cut which seemed to badly get to Diaz.

In this scenario he is fighting a very orthodox counterpuncher. I think Diaz would have a lot more success when he does get past Marquez's 1-2. Marquez has not fought a lightweight that has brought it to him yet.

On the other hand there is no doubt Marquez throws the better straighter punches, has the quicker handspeed and better defence. That in itself tells you Diaz is going to have to sustain some damage and then hope to outwork Marquez to a hard fought decision. Not to mention Marquez's best performances have been against fighters that have come to him, like Pacquiao, whereas outboxers like Chris John have troubled him where he has not been able to get off with his counters.

I think both pose significant problems for the other. This should be a great fight, an interesting fight.

  11. It's a very difficult one to call.

If Campbell can outbox Diaz then surely Marquez should be able to do the same? Diaz has an awful lot of energy though and Marquez isn't getting any younger. But Marquez was excellent against Pacquiao and Casamayor. Can't call it yet.

One thing I do know is that 'it takes Juan to know Juan.'

    Sorry.

    I think Campbell outfought him.

That is why its not as cut and dry for me. Marquez is going to have to do something completely different to Campbell to win. He will have to outbox him. Lightweights previously have found this difficult with Diaz's pace and strength.

Again, totally agree, Campbell met fire with fire and prevailed

Marquez cannot do this, he will lose for sure if he even tries

Marquez needs to exert control but Diaz is a hard man to control... he just throws and throws

  15. I think if Marquez is still in prime physical condition then he has a real chance of outboxing Diaz, making him miss and counter punching. He could win a few rounds that way like he did against Pacquiao. But he can't do that for 12 full rounds he's going to have to mix it up some of the time. If he gets drawn into a fight then he may get himself into trouble against a fighter like Diaz.
