Rory Markus went on to become the voice of the Angels and beloved by Angel fans such as myself. He called the 2002 World Series.

Rory died of a heart attack before the 2010 season. His calls from that series are still played before home games.

Sorry to hear he passed away. I think it was KFWB. They would have the traffic with that beeping sound and then back to Vegas where Rory Markus is at the big fight, and then he would talk between rounds. He would talk and say the such and such round is starting, I will report back after the round is over.. He had a very energetic and lively voice, something I do not have. Those years were so exciting. Even though we didn't have the net or twitter to follow thing with, we had those special things. I remember with Hearns, I would call Michigan and the Detroit News or Free Press sports departments and ask about when Hearns was going to fight and call back to get up to the minute results. They didn't mind really. The sport guys were fast talking guys who would say "Hearns knocked him out in round 3" really fast and hang out. Right to the point.

It was incredible ! Thanks to my awesome Dad. We got to watch Hearns in training and watch him do the pads with Emanuel Steward. The `pop` he made on the pads from that fabled right hand of his was unbelieveable !! I`ll never forget that night ... I always liked to watch Banke, he always gave an exciting fight !!

You guys are so right. Back then, the fighters wanted the bragging rights that came with kicking the asses of the other top tier champs as well. The great thing about Hagler/Hearns is that they BOTH came out to get their respect and do damage...
