This is on DVR delay, FYI.

The results aren't up yet, though - so...

    Alan Sanchez vs. Cristian Favela

    Round 1

Favela follows and takes heavy cracks from the taller and quicker Sanchez, mostly on the tightly clamped gloves but a few brushing his hairline. Sanchez is wearing the general's hat and doing the general's jig all around the ring while the determined midget journeyman insists on walking up and not punching (save for one sad little left hook cut at an angle from down low after dipping at the knees - easily slipped by Sanchez). WOAH! CRAZINESS!!! The lights go out in Fairfield, California!! No, nobody scored a knockout. The LIGHTS IN THE VENUE just went out...then back on...then off again. They blink for about fifteen seconds, plunging the venue into and out of total pitch darkness. The crowd, the commentators and even the fighters are all gasping in amazement. WTF is going on????? They basically just cancel the rest of the round while both boxers stand there exchanging confused shrugs with each other and the ref.

    Round 2

Sanchez is trotting around, changing directions, throwing sharp right hands from different angles. Favela is just plodding after him, making no attempt to cut off the ring and just tossing right hands to the body and winging blind left hooks with his head tucked on the inside. Sanchez keeps a busy jab attached to Favela's face while navigating his way past a corner. Sanchez sets his feet and tries a combo on the smaller man but has much of it blocked. Favela suddenly comes alive at round's end with some wild haymakers but doesn't catch the longer and more agile Sanchez with anything of note.

    20-18 Sanchez

    Round 3

Sanchez has good quick legs and he's using them to full effect to show the gulf in class between himself and his opponent. Favela is making a bit more of an effort to move laterally to cut Sanchez off, and is flurrying low to the body as well as hurling lead lefts and left uppercuts to the body by themselves. Sanchez is able to keep enough distance that these body punches only graze if they make contact at all. Sanchez lands a couple of quick combos to the head while playing keepaway from the shorter boxer, who slices the air with some more impassioned haymakers.

    30-27

    Round 4

Sanchez is keeping Favela lined up in his sights with his quick left jab (and nimble footwork) and is tagging him with straight right hands and hard uppercuts. Favela is motoring at him and hooking away to his heart's content but landing little. Favela tires a bit and clinches. Sanchez has a few jabs blocked and brings a hard right cross around to thump on Favela's guard and make him consider letting Sanchez slip off the ropes..which he does. Favela has a stubborn look on his face, as though he's resigned to losing but doesn't want to make it easy for the young prospect.

    Round 5

Sanchez is shredding off some more combos now, but short ones on the move as Favela has committed to wading in and slapping with pesky left hooks to the body while keeping his right glove glued to his face. Favela reaches up and touches Sanchez with a rare punch in the face, but it's just a soft attention-getter with the right. Sanchez is still doing the better work but is obviously feeling a bit crowded now, past the halfway mark.

    Round 6

Sanchez is getting pushed around the ring a bit more now, rather than controlling it with his movement. He is still landing nice counters but is getting swarmed by the old dog, who keeps pounding the body with left hooks in close and slapping with whatever he can on the way in (and forcing Sanchez to clinch when he gets right on top of him). Sanchez begins to try and put some more torque on his punches from the outside when he gets separation, and Favela puts his hands up to play to the crowd in a show of Mexican machismo. He then backs it up with a few wild hard punches down the stretch.

That could have been a Favela round. :think

    Round 7

Favela battles his way inside with some two-handed free-swinging recklessness. Sanchez gets backed into the ropes and picks Favela off with some nasty sharp counterpunches but is unable to deter him. Sanchez starts using more evasive upper body movement as his legs begin to weigh him down and betray him. Favela quickly figures out his pendulous defensive motions and times him with a few left hooks mid-duck. Sanchez throws a 1-2 and leans into the right hand as he catches Favela and clinches him for a moment before pushing him off. Favela looks very comfortable and content despite throwing and missing a ton of punches and getting grabbed frequently by a bigger and stronger physical specimen almost half his age.

    Round 8

Sanchez mixes jabs and uppercuts and gets out of the way as Favela charges in to get his in. Sanchez is very effectively clinching after every successful volley. Favela chases him into a corner and Sanchez misses a hook (with a little elbow sticking out suspiciously far toward Favela's face) and then leans into him before vaulting off. Favela is a little machine, coming forward with a succession of body blows as Sanchez tries to shuffle away and tag him from range. Big right hand from Favela misses as Sanchez jerks out of the pocket just in time. They start to exchange punches in the middle of the ring. Favela looks tired but wails away at the young man while nodding his approval of his budding cojones.

It was an 8-rounder, knucklehead.

80-72 (wrong) 78-74 & 78-74 (both good) UD to Alan "Puas" Sanchez; he improves to 6-2-1. I'm actually surprised he's lost twice this early in his career. He doesn't look all that bad.

What's with his nickname? It means "guitar picks" in Spanish? :blood
