Damn it! I hate when this happens.

Don't misunderstand - this has the makings of an excellent fight with lots of action...in fact, it's the very best kind of match-up where both guys have a touch of vulnerability (Matthysse with his leaky defense and Corley with his underrated but still crackable chin) and can punch like hell and are all too willing to do so...but can box a bit.

    The reason this sucks is...

Well, you know when you're a fan of a fighter and hoping they can rebound from bad times and really pulling for them to get a win? It's like that right now with both these guys for me. :yep The last boxers I'd want to see them in with is one another...although it does portend exhilaration.

Heavy-handed Matthysse is coming off a loss to Zab Judah that many consider a robbery, in which he hurt Judah quite severely in the late going. Before that, he had been on a decent run highlight by a somewhat stigmatized stoppage win over Vivian Harris (which was indeed prematurely ended by an incompetent referee, but all the same appeared to be a fight that was going the Argentine puncher's way).

Corley is coming off two consecutive losses and 4 in his last 5 outings...but is actually not as dire an opponent as that would make him seem on the surface, if you've actually seen him in action. After getting stopped in brutal fashion by slow but powerful Freddy "El Riel" Hernandez, many assumed Corley was all done at the top level...only to be proven very, very wrong when he took Marcos Rene Maidana life and death after a confidence-builder. Since the decision loss to Maidana - which was one of the braver performances of 2010 - he was judged the loser in a contest with Ukrainian prospect Sergei Fedchenko...in the Ukraine (called a robbery by some).

I'll be thrilled for whoever wins, and bummed for whoever loses. Both need a W badly, and each is exactly the kind of scalp the other needs right now.

At the very least we have a great fight to look forward to - hopefully one of many as the year picks up speed! :happy

The physical strength of Lucas will be too much. Chop Chop is still capable of fighting at a fairly high level. At his peak we was really a very good fighter, who came up short against the best. Lucas is very raw, and less skilled than Chop but he will prove to be to strong, and I see a stoppage for him unfortunately, although im rooting for Chop to pull off the upset

I completely am in the same boat, being happy with whoever wins.

I think in the end though, I would just happy if this turns out to be a competitive fight.

Ol' Chop Chop yet again proved he isn't completely done in his last fight, so we will more than likely see him give Lucas a hard time.

In the end though I see Lucas' power being too much, with him probably scoring kd's late, giving him a solid decision, or late stoppage.

    War Chop Chop :smoke

Corley was a really good fighter at his peak, never elite but very good, now he is nothing more than a gatekeeper, If Matthysse can't beat this version of Corley, well lets just say he isn't that good.

    I hear you IB.

Ive always had a spot for Chop, just one of those guys you cant help but pull for. However, I cant be rooting for him to put an L on one of the bright fighters at 140 and disrupt whatever momentum Lucas is putting together.

I would love to see Lucas beat Chop in impressive fashion, and go on to get some big matches against the likes of Ortiz, Peterson, and hopefully, Maidana.

So, in that sense, I will be rooting for Lucas. Also, in a way, I would like for Lucas to be very good so the fact that Judah had a hard time beating him isnt an indicator on where Judah is at but more on where Lucas is at. As I am hoping Judah can make some waves as well.

However, if Chop pulls out the victory, I will be happy for the cagey vet.

As for who wins, I am confident that Lucas will pull it off. Maidana can have an excuse in that maybe he completely, completely overlooked Corley for their bout, thinking it would be a blowout given Corleys current standing and prior fight. Given what happened that night, I dont think Lucas will make the same mistake.... I just dont see Corley being able to win this one.

Nice little fight though and cant wait for it.

    Corley could win.

Matt isn't Maidana and not as dirty either.

I just don't see Chop Chop pulling this out. It looks like it will be entertaining, thank you for pointing it out.
